I'm sure this subject has been covered many times, but what can I spread under my airbed to prevent the cold from the ground reaching my bod? Something cheap and cheerful preferably and must pack down small. (m/cycle trailer) Any over- witty replies get mine in return. Lol.

Also how does the Cadac Safari Chef stack up against the Cobb? Weight being a major factor.

I am of the insulation-on-top-of-airbed party....why put the insulation underneath, and still have a six inch depth of cold air under your bum?

Assuming you have a decent sleeping bag, you might get away with just a fleece blanket. You can also try a thin roll up camping mat, a quilted or fake sheepskin mattress cover or an old sleeping bag. (We use an ancient nylon one left over from the dark times.)

I did think of using that stuff they use to insulate under laminate flooring - however before I got around to buying it we went for a weekend camp.  I tried one bed without insulation and 1 bed with - there was no difference that I could tell so I have now joined the insulate on top brigade.   We've bought a cheap extra sleeping bag to open out - but you could use those fleece blankets you can get for a couple of pounds.

I use a Lidl foil backed picnic blanket on the floor then air bed with a fleece underblanket and sheet to keep it in place. We are going to France in the summer and don't know if i will need to use this when the weather is very hot. We usually only do UK camping.

Thank you one and all for your advice. We'll try the fleecy blanket option next weekend, when we take the grandies camping down Bridgwater way.

Newspapers work best.

We use the picnic rugs with the insulated backing. One under the bed itself and one on top of the bed under the sleeping bag. Around a fiver each. Asda ,Wilko etc

On Monday night I used an old deflated double airbed under my new inflated double airbed (if you see what I mean).

Last time I went to Ikea those fleece blankets were £1.50 so I got a couple of those, I was cosy all night.

We sleep on 2 airbeds - one on top of the other.  We put camping mats under the first airbed. Then a fleece blannket ontop of the first airbed (this sometimes absorbs any condensation between the 2 beds) then we have my daughters old "Little Mermaid" quilt on top of the upper airbed & lie ontop of in our sleeping bags.  Having 2 airbeds is really comfy and a little higher off the ground. Also, the beds dont need pumping up quite as often which is good when you are away for a week or longer.

Under our double air bed we put two roll mats, foil backed, then an old sleeping bag opened up, then sleep in Vango nitestar350 bags, then thro another bag over the top, opened out, The OH must have iced water running thro her vains.

Safe to say, I melt !!
