We have bravely purchased a tent and have decided to give camping ago this summer. My only worry is the two young children I have. I know my 3 year old will love it but am a little worried about my 10 month old baby. Has anybody braved camping with a baby before? Any tips?
hello and welcome to ukcs youl prob get laods of answers when all the brave souls return from their weekend away
we are in the same boat our 4 year old loves camping and has been with us loads of times but this sunday coming will be the first outing for our just turned one year old and hes a bit of a whiner we have decided that even though we hate comercial sites we are going to take him to a haven site then at least if he disturbs anyone we can put him in pram and go for a walk somewhere he wont disturb rest of campers as its not just our holiday but everyone on sites holiday
having said that im sure with all the running about and fresh air he will be no problem our eldest sleeps for england when we camp but at home shes up at 6.30 every day
i would just try not to go too far from home for the first time and play by ear maybe take a flask and boil water for his feed before you go to sleep so you dont have to wait for water to boil if he wakes up hungry
if you do a search for camping with babys i found some great info on this site

never argue with an idiot, they will bring you down to their level and beat you on experience
For our first trip out, we chose a site about an hour from home, for a weekend. We worked on the theory that if the children then a very young five and two didn't like it, then we could get home easily, even if it meant getting me and the kids home, then Richard going back for the tent. Needn't have worried they both loved it. I've seen plenty of people pushing babies around in prams at odd hours, obvious trying to get them to sleep. Commercial sites like Haven sites do have their advantages - things like the childrens shows help pass some time - a big bonus on a wet afternoon, or if you really don't want to go on a day out, having someone else entertain the kids while you have a cuppa or even something stronger is great. I've stayed on them using them as a base for days out - yet with something to do if I don't want to drive. (Or like lasts year when the fuel crisis was on which meant our days out were limited.)
Hi, we take our children camping, first time we had a trailer tent and our daughter loved it. Now we've sold it and got a Hertford XXL, again she loved it, but we went at entirely the wrong time of year and froze. Not to be deterred we're off (now it's supposed to be warmer). Our little boy was just over a year, and we've got him a vango nitestar baby sleeping bag, will be much warmer. Generally most kids will love it, as they charge around so much during the day they are shattered in the evening. For your younger one, just watching what is going on around will be tiring enough !
Do a search for "toddler tips" and you will see all the useful advice we were given. Also a tip I picked up off another thread which I think is a great idea is to use garden solar lights inside the pods at night as night-lights, just put them outside in the day to charge.
All the best with your trip, we're off on our first family trip in two weeks with our just turned 2 yr old yesterday.
we took our children camping when they were 3 and 11 months. They loved it and we've gone regularly ever since. Wish I'd known about this site then tho! Never been to commercial sites, tend to choose ones with loads of playgrounds etc or better still animals. Recommend 'glosticks' for night time, loads of colours, kids love em and low light level which doesn't disturb anyone. Also sleep with torch in your bedroom so you can flick it on if they're awake and quickly calm them. Like everyone else I've prampushed at 5am because my youngest was horribly early riser, don't fret, camping is a family pastime and people who don't want to hear kids will go to an adult only site. Best word of warning, make sure your zips are securely down at night, our friends toddler let herself out of the gap at the bottom of the zip and crawled off.
