I've been there myself, try to make it a good weekend if only for for the kid's sake. it takes time, lots of time.

Thanks everyone for your kind words, I really appreciate them, you are all sooo kind.

Liz`s death came as such a shock, we knew it wasn`t good, but she was only told two weeks ago and we didn`t expect this to happen, ok, in the backs of our minds we knew the secondary cancer was not a good sign, but even so we didn`t expect this so soon.

I spoke to my middle sister earlier and as she so rightly said, at least with it being this quick she did not linger on in pain for a long time as some do. It was mercifully quick, even if it was a great shock to us all.

My sister said `Go camping Jac, take the kids and have fun, have a drink to Liz and don`t worry, you aren`t being disrespectful, just doing what Liz would tell you to do if she was here`.

I am paddling about trying to remember what we need to take with us and failing miserably. I`m sure I`ve packed two of some things and none of others, so this trip will be an interesting one if nothing else!

One thing I made double sure to pack though was the bottle opener, I am going to open a nice bottle of wine, look for the brightest star in the sky and raise my glass to Liz. I may shed a tear, but she will know what I mean.

II'm away this weekend , and 'll look for that star too, and think of you, while remembering........

It's funny how you notice how bright the stars are while camping, and don't even notice them at home

 I have to agree with Queeny here. I am sorry to hear your sad news Jacqui but, I think you are doing the right thing buy taking the children away and, dedicating the weekend to your cousin. What a wonderful way for you and your family to remember her and express how you all feel about her.

I am pleased you are taking the kiddies away, as you say your cousin wouldnt want to spoil the kids weekend, have fun, let the kids have fun, and raise a glass to Liz,

there is nothing you can do, BUT take the bairns away and let your hair down,

and Liz is in no pain remember that, and she would want you all to have a fabby time away

maybe a look at the list of camping stuff on this site, may help you or stop you packing 3 odd boots and to many underpants and not enough knickers

I am so sorry to read about your loss...I hope you can raise a few glasses in her memory...

I'm so sorry to hear your news. You have obviously put a great deal of thought into your plans though...and you are right to go, It brings home how short and precious life is.

Hi Jaqui, so sorry to here of your loss and i'm sure all our thoughts are with you at this awful time.

The owner of the site our caravan is on has just come through a second operation for colon cancer and every time we go up we tell her we feel as if we shouldnt be there due to her being ill - be as she says its our holiday we should enjoy ourselves, i'm sure Liz would have said the same.  Hope this helps...s

Terribly sorry to read your post. Like all on here, I can only sympathise and give you a big imaginary hug to help squeeze out them tears.

As someone else has already said, "you only live once" so go out there and make it s fantastic weekend for your kids. Put evey spare ounce of energy you can into it. I am sure it will help in the long run.
