Hi, newbie here, just found your site and was wondering is there a tent review section.

I've just spent a freezing, windy bank holiday weekend in a terrible Lichfield cherokee 3 up Capel Curig in Snowdonia and am thinking about getting the Sherpa. Anyone know if they are good tents that can cope with a bit of wind ( the outdoor variety)

Hi saturnus

The Khyam Sherpa 3 until recently was known as the Campus Sherpa 3. I have pitched one for a friend about a week ago and was rather impressed although I must say i have a few reservations about its stability in strong winds. I really don't think it's suitable for mountain type camping, but pretty good for low level sheltered pitches. I can't say anything about the Outwell as I haven't seen one yet.

The best type of tents for windy conditions are geodesic or semi geodesic. Have you seen the Coleman Adrenaline 3 yet? They are reasonably priced and really stand up to the elements (very waterproof too with a hydrostatic head of 5000mm, which is excellent).

Hi Rob, Jk thanks for replying so quickly. i went to Outdoor world in Bootle today to see the Khyam "up" and youure correct the Khyam does look a bit unsteady.. The must important to me is the wind resistance asd we spend a bit of time in the exposed valleys of Snowdonia. Thanks for the advice on the Coleman, I'll check it out.

Once again thanks for the welcome Jk

Regards

Hello and welcome saturnus. I agree than ordinary tunnel tents don't take to windy mountains very well. We got an Adrenaline 3 last year but it is only now about to be tried out by my OH as he heads off fossiling on the E Yorks coast - it should get a good wind trial on Filey Brigg this very weekend!

The tent is discontinued now so you can get some real bargains - its RRP was about £180, and I have seen it online for about £119 now. Check it here

Whilst that might be more pennies than the Sherpa you were looking at, it is SO superior in materials (fabirc 5000HH, alloy poles) and shape (geodesic) so at that price its a snip!

....................STOP PRESS UPDATE!!!..................................

Have just found it on line at the INCREDIBLE PRICE of £79.99 at World of camping here And they are a very reliable trader who is well regarded by regulars on here. I say go for it now!!!
