I bought a EHU with 3 sockets today for £49.99 from bestbuys at wellingborough. they do say on their web site that the same thing at argos costs £99.99.
I went for a cheap thing first and was soon put in my place by fellow members....dont be a hook-up gambler.

I dont think wardens or site owners are responsible for campers electrical equipment, that could have an enourmous task if it were.
Providing owners have a supply to current legislation I think they are okay, but then there is a duty of care that they should have to their customers, at the end of the day they are running a business.
Maybe It would be prudent for all electrical hookups to be inspected before use but then the wardens would have to be electrically trained.
I totally agree with what you are saying but how should it be poiliced and controlled.....difficult

The "proper" rcd protected EHU's are fine, except that as soon as something is plugged in the protective flap stays open. I didnt like the idea of this so I made my own using 20m of 2.5mm Arctic cable and a double RCD protected IP65 plug socket exactly the same as THIS When the plugs are in the unit is completely sealed in. It also means that our soon to be a crawling and wandering baby boy cant meddle with it. Its ability to withstand water ingress was proven when it was left out in the rain still plugged in...!!! In honesty it cost probably the same as the "proper" EHU's but I have the confidence in knowing that as I built it up I know it is safe. Apologies to those who believe that because it cost £60 from Towsure then it must be safe, but I prefer the safety of my family to be in my hands not some assembly worker in China.

But what do you use the EHU for, its fine having that end of the circuit fully waterproofed but defeats the object is the other end isn't, I've seen people use similar things and quote similar statements and also seen these people plug 4-gang extension cables into them. Not saying that you do this but can you be sure that everything you plug into it is waterproofed or of a similar IP rating or even Class 2 double insultated, if not does it defeat the object......
Please do not take offence to this it is purely an observation.

SOME sites do but it's best not to rely on the sites own RCD, you should always have an RCD on your EHU

The sites RCD has to be tested regularly how often are the units you buy tested? The site have to stick to the regulations Do you? Most of the units you can purchase quote an IP rating of 44 but once you pug your appliance in this goes out of the window as your plug top is open to the elements as thje cover will not close to seal the plug! Common sence has to prevail keep electics away from kids and moisture.

A three socket EHU will cost you £55 at Outdoor Focus - cheaper by £10 than last year when I bought one! There is a £5 delivery charge. It is a false economy to spend £5 less on a single socket.
http://www.outdoorfocus.co.uk/equipment/electric_hookups/electric_hookups.htm
Once you have it you can suddenly take stuff that will save you a lot of money in spare batteries, paying for freezing ice packs (take an electric cool box) and gas for heaters etc(take a fan heater)
I camped for years without and enjoyed the experience. I have electricity now and enjoy it so much more!
Enjoy yourself too!

They should be tested regularly, but I've certainly stayed on sites where the EHU equipment looks like it hasn't been inspected for many years.
I use exactly the same set-up as takisawa, but for those unable to make their own I believe the generally available tent EHUs, used carefully, offer a reasonable compromise.
