Hi dumfries and galloway has loads of good campsites it really depends what you are looking for. There is one at Hoddom Castle Caravan Park which is situated aprox 20 miles from Carlise it is set in the grounds of Hoddom Castle near the river has good facilites bar etc really nice site within easy distance of Lockerbie and Dumfries.
If you go further into D&G there is Brighouse Bay which is near Kircudbright really nice site but very big set very near the beach. Seaward is opposite is also good
If you head towards Stranraer A75 there are loads of sites and great beaches the Three Lochs site is really nice off the main road quiet site no bar but has swimming pool people very friendly.
Head on further and there is a campsite in the village of Glenluce Glenluce camping and caravan park the camping area is in an old walled garden next to a burn got a pool (small) not the cheapest of sites but really nice and good pubs food in Glenluce
Mossyard also on A75 private beach etc
