I agree with many others that 8am is the ideal time. Even at that time I wouldn't let my kids be too noisy.

Our kids are up at 7.00 am every morning - and the quiet times at the camp site quoted were 11.00 pm until 7.00 am.  I didn't try to send them back to bed or keep them quiet (and no they weren't noisy).

However I don't see why I should try keep them quiet until 8.00 am (or even later as some were suggesting) because other (adults) choose to stay up late being noisy (as the party next to us last time did).  If the adults can't obey the 11.00 pm rule then why should my kids stay quiet in the morning to allow them to sleep in late?

If you don't like kids then as others have said, pick an adults only site.  No one seems to advertise children only sites though, so those with kids don't have a choice!

I think that saying people without kids should use adult only sites is a bit unfair. Adult only sites are few and far between! We have no problem at all with kids making general children's noise from about 7am. Young children can't help themselves, especially on holiday and are naturally excitable which does not bother me at all but what I really don't like is when they run about outside screaming, clearly unsupervised at an early hour. Most children we have seen on sites have been nice, polite kids whose parents supervise them well, however, you do get the odd few who run riot and whose parents don't seem to care.

My two older ones picked up very quickly not to be loud in the morning, i'm not a morning person!!!!! they play in thier bedroom till I get up around 9ish I think it is hard in a tent, just remberr that we are not all the same and don't all want the same things but can hear so much of what each other is doing, I find the best thing to learen to look around you. if it looks like people are tring to sleep keep it down. yes kids will be kids and (drunk) adults will be silly but if we all just open our eyes and see what other people are trying to do and respect that the world (and the campsite ) will be a better place.

I am soo lucky , all the fresh air & playing , mine dont tend to wake til about nine , then the site seems all awake anyway.

I would not let them out until 8 or 9 as i will still be resting in bed anyway . then they are breakfasted and washed before disaapearing.

what i wouldn't give for mine to stay in bed till 9. my youngest is usually awake by 6am then the others shortly after. gameboys are a godsend for keeping then quiet, as i don't let mine out till about 8.30 when i get up!

I can't say I've had much problem with my kids early in the morning - except for the first morning we're there when I have to say 'it's too early go back to sleep' at 4am, 4.30am,5am, etc

And I must have been lucky so far in that we've not had to deal with any other annoying kids/adults either. (*touches wood*)

I like being able to let my kids have the freedom of the field, so I have tried to teach them that you don't play around other people's tents, you don't go into other people's tents unless invited, and if invited, you tell me whose tent you are going in before you do. I've found that mostly other kids do the same, and fingers crossed, it'll carry on that way!

hi all

surley if you want to stay up till the early hours drinking and talking you don't go to a site with strict rules for no noise

and if you want to stay in bed you can't complain if the site rules say quiet untill 7AM . the ones that went to bed early will be getting up.

When camping you get woken up by all sorts of things .birds , people going about their normal  routine, Zips, pans banging on stoves etc car doors banging. distant church  chimes ( well at lest you know what time it is lol )

kids trying to be quiet ( often more noise from the parents doing the shhsing lol )

thats ok providing you wernt kept awake the night before by the rowdies or the snorers or the child that cries in the night, or the owl that insist on sitting just above your tent

but after the first few night just hit the pillow and fall asleep  lol   and sleep thro evey thing else

now if i was on a camp and the noise was excessive either late at night or very early in the morning  i think i would say something. ( i do go to sites with noisy rules ) so i would expect others to abide by them.

but as for all the other noises if they bother you  wear ear plugs or don't go camping !!!

noise travels a lot more on a field in the night and it seems more amplified  and its sometimes difficult to say where its coming from

weve just been camping this weekend very quiet site, but the birds were VERY noisy. the first morning they were up about 3.15

maybe it was because it was a warm summer weekend and the birds were raring to go  lol The second morning i managed to sleep till 7.15  but i was on my way out of the camp at 8.15 and some people were still asleep

I used to camp with friends who belived in wearing earplugs so they could get a decent nights sleep. Trouble was, they couldn`t hear their own very young children when the children woke up at night. We all moaned at them (there was a group of us at a cycle rally) but they insisted that they needed the earplugs to screen out the other noises and the kids usually only cried for half an hour or so at home, so just to ignore them.

On the third night of lying listening to the kids crying at two am, our resident grumpy batchelor opened the tent door and threw a pan of cold water over the parents to wake them up. They were not amused.

We all were, though. And funnily enough, there was very little night crying from their tent for the rest of the week. Indeed, we still remind them of the incident every chance we get.

My kids are not the problem, it's me. I wake very early in the Summer. I go for an early shower and like to get the washing up done from the night before. I have a trundle trolley (crate on wheels). When it is full up it makes a racket when it is pulled on concrete. I try to use the grassy bits and carry it part way. What a sight I must look. Lady with wet hair wearing large white towelling robe pulling/carrying purple crate going to the potwash. I was chatting to a lovely lady one afternoon said she could not make out what this noise was every morning at 6.00AM. Did I khow if there was a milkman that came? I said I had no idea and quickly went inside.

Margaret

PS Mine don't wake until 8.30 - 9.00AM
