lol. I love the idea of the bucket as the gas bottle holder. The only reason why I was thinking of a seat was that I have two smallish children and I was wondering how they'd cope without one. I'm sure they would cope mind you, it was just a wonder.

I'll put zoflora on the shopping list, and get the BWL I think.

Thanks for the answers.

My girl is four and perfectly happy perching on the rim of the bucket. She`s been using it since she was three and always preferred it to the potty. (So much so she came home from one camping trip and started peeing in her waste paper basket!) A Luggable Loo would definately be too high for her. Just make sure you have a nice stable, robust bucket that isn`t too high or wide.

Very small children are better off with their usual potty though, regardless of whether you take a bucket or portapotty.

This is the first year I've considered alternative arrangements to the potty. They are 5 and 7 now, and last year my oldest was objecting to having to use the potty. If your daughter is happy, my 2 will certainly cope.

I'd thought of getting a BWL from mothercare, they looked sort of short and stable on their website.

I don't know where else I'd get one - it's not the sort of thing I shop for everyday!

The Mothercare BWL is a classic and popular choice around here.

They're not that expensive over here - the actual toilet is around the £90 mark - but you don't actually need one of those as you can combine the WAG bags with a Luggable Loo or just an ordinary bucket (with or without lid ) the Wag bags themselves are about £26 for £12 and as we use 1 per night that works out at just over £2 per day. Now I realise that's more expensive than just a BWL, but for me the convenience and ease of disposal is definitely worth the cost - I think Merry Terrier and Lynm would agree with me as well.

Thing is, have you found that when you have a wee after using sugarpuffs it smells exactly the same as sugarpuffs? Strange. I'd be tempted if using a bucket to put something in to disguise the smell..... wouldn't wanna wake up with the honey monster. :D

I confess to using the childrens potty when they were little. At the time had a trailer tent, but no loo, and it was pouring down outside and I just had to go. Thats the trouble with camping and drinking too much wine at night!

O yes -the Mothercare one is fab- the lid has quite a deep rim on it so it fits very snugly - in fact our bucket once got tipped over and the lid stayed on! (phew)

I guess it comes down to there are three camps here:

1) The iron-men - those who just don't go or stoically trudge across the site in the midst of the night.

2) The ex-cons – rather use a potty or bucket and then slop out prison style the next morning.

3) The well-to-dos - use a porta-potti or equivalent elegant solution
