Hi
we are relatively new to camping and have decided to go with an electric hook up in future, basically to keep cool box chilled. We have seen a range of hook ups on Ebay and need some expert advice on which you suggest.

Would you recomend a reel with a block of four sockets uncovered or would you always go for the covered sockets with built in trip switch (more expensive)

Please advise
Cheers Sandra

Get a proper one from a good camping shop.  It's more expensive, but its just not worth the risk.  We went electric this year, primarily for a cooler, and haven't regretted it, but I have now bought and electric kettle!

All the best,

You definitely need a proper hook-up with RCD protection. Something like the mobile mains unit half way down this

This is the sunncamp one (top) that I bought last year. It's not worth buying cheap on something like this unless you don't value yours or your families life much It comes in its own bag too.

We bought one off E-bay earlier this year.  When I looked at it, it looked dodgy.  I asked opinions on here, and was persuaded to buy a hook-up from a camping shop, which I did.

The other one is sitting in the utility room, minus its end.  It'll probably never get used for anything now.  But I feel a lot happier now that we have the real thing.  It was expensive, Sunncamp, but I won't be worried about it knowing that its safe.

The person who was selling it on E Bay had seen my thread on here, and sent a message to us, telling us that he was a trained electrician, and there was nothing wrong with it.  He offered to refund the money, but as I said, its still sitting here.

Don't be tempted, get a proper one

Roz

Thanks for all the advice, will heed it well.

I don't suppose you can do anything about the rainy weather we are expecting this weekend, typical second time out and i fear we are going to have a wet time in Chester !!!!!
