Smaller tents are better ,less space to heat up ,double skinned throughout ( better insulated ) full sewn in grounsdheet ( obviously part of a double skin anyway) mud flaps on outer fly too ( if possible ? )an extended porch or canopy of some kind to cook under ( or additon of a kitchen tent too )
You've reminded me of a trip we made several years ago when we went camping in the October 1/2 term. We had a four man ridge tent then... a bit battered but home from home.
The weather was cold but sunny and we were ready for a fresh energising weekend of walking....
Imagine our surprise to get up on Saturday morning to a fresh 2" sprinkling of snow!
Everywhere was so quiet and peaceful, we had a fantastic day and came back to a warm, dry, cosy tent.
Happy memories eh?... thats what camping's all about...
------------- I just can't get enough...Camping!!!
My tent is also classified as a 2 season tent, does this mean it can't be used for anything other than spring and summer?
Steve
no just that the tent is not guarenteed in autumn /winter weather conditions ,its a case of 'on oyur own back be it 'if it comes a cropper due to extreme weather conditions!
The thing I like about camping late autumn/eary spring is sitting out on a clear cold night and looking at the stars, they are amazing when there is on light pollution.
Whlle you can see the great outdoors without camping, I get a much better appreciation of dawn and dusk away from the city and double glazed insulation.
