my return to camping after 20 years of no holidays... a few days away on my own prior to a run to Skye.
Me, motorcycle, tent & C&CC members card. Started off late saturday afternoon (had to pick up another m/c from Wandsworth first) & wobbled down to Moreton nr Dorchester (should see the Tesco store there!!). Lovely campsite & lucky for me it was fish 'n' chips van night! decent pitch near loo block - had nifty draincover nearby to stand bike on- so tent up, cheapo airbed inflated (fitted ciggy lighter socket to m/c - good move) & joined Q for me fish supper. luvverly jubberly. bit of jawin' with various campers (mostly about the bike) bit of reading, showered & off to bed. lovely nights kip, wake up to birdsong at dawn. grand. Coffee brewed in 2 mins on the wonderful Jetboil
next day spent tootling around Chesil/Portland/Lulworth Cove & then to Abbotsbury Swannery. Soppy i know, but dang they're beautiful. Cygnets everywhere.
moved on toSouth/Mid-Wales to Rhandirmwyn near Llandovery. First class campsite right on the river (review done). Is there any campsite better than this? Location, Location, Location! Cool clear river 10ft from my tent. birds everywhere (feathered!) fish a-swimmin', cattle a-lowin', river a-burbling. immediately extended my stopover by another day! local pubgrub good, loads of walks/rides around area. no telly signal, no mobile phone signal, no kids around. peaceful or what? So heavenly i'm going back asap.
final night camping at Hayfield -quick stopover only - nice but busy area, deserves longer stay than one night! (v. helpful manager who fetched a big board to stand bike on), before meeting up with 'Bro & making way north to Bonny Scotland. No camping (boo!) from now on as Bro's buddy has home near Loch Ness, & we hotelled Skye....must admit i'd rather have been in my tent... which i will be next time i go there (awesome scenery everywhere).
I've put pics up on my profile of tent/site - doesn't appear to be anywhere for more than three, sorry.
To summerise motorcycle camping? it's gonna be a way of life for me now. that good.
postscript: Tent left at Bro's house for him to borrow, cos i bought me a new Khyam Micro, having discovered that size isn't everything... and it's up in seconds... first trial soon (probably back to Rhandirmwyn!!)
another happy camper!
------------- old enough to know better...young enough to still do it..
