Well we camped at the Great NORTH Run last year at around that time, no problem ... and it was without hook-up too! Although it was very cold we were blessed with the weather as it was at least dry.

I'm doing the Great North Run on October 1st this year...where did you camp?

I've been looking into booking accomodation in Newcastle but most of it is fully booked or really expensive.

I'd rather camp if possible too!

I'd agree, October can be lovely.  We went to Kippford, Dumfries & Galloway one October and it was fantastic weather - really warm during the day, we were walking around in t-shirts and paddling in the Solway Firth.  It got chillier at nights though - but a quality sleeping bag, cosy jammies and a hot water bottle (just in case) and you'd be fine!  As others have said before, just don't let youself get cold in the first place - layers of clothing are best.
