Hi Wendy, top tips, as any camper will agree, Don't forget the bottle opener. don't forget the beer, don't forget the bucket with a lid. Welcome to ukcs btw. anything specific you're worried about?
I've never used EHU and don't ever plan to and we always have a great time. As long as you have the basics ie: a tent and something to sleep in, then anything else is a luxury item :)
Although I have to admit there are a few items I wouldn't be without, it's amazing what you get used to.
take a cool box with a two litre bottle of water frozen.(in fact, freeze whatever you can before you go) instead of ice blocks. You can drink the water when it thaws and it will keep your other stuff cold while it is thawing.
Take a torch, matches, corkscrew, bottle opener and money for the pub !.........
Just out of interest... when you freeze your bottles of water, how much water do you put in them? We bought some new bottles today to take on a trip tomorrow, but my hubby insisted that we empty some out so that the bottles wouldn't burst.
yes, just empty a little out to make sure they don't burst. You can freeze milk too, and butter or spread. Frozen orange juice is wonderful when it starts to defrost to the slushy stage, fab for hangovers, or putting in your vodka. You may need to set your freezer to fast freeze, a 2 litre bottle takes a long time to fully freeze, especially in this weather and if your freezer is full.
Just enjoy yourself - we have never had EHU and don't want it. I know it is particularly good if you have kids, as it makes life easier, but we enjoy reducing our needs to a manageable (gas powered!) level and enjoying the relaxation that comes from living without telly etc for a few days.
If you are used to EHU for various needs such as heat and light, just remember to make sure you have layers of clothes, and a torch, a bottle of your fave tipple and your sense of humour!
