An air bed on a camp bed is great! I once slept on that combination for every night for four months, it was more comfortable than an ordinary bed!!!
If you find that an air bed is too bouncy or you roll off, you have probably over inflated it. It should only be inflated to the point where your body, normally your hip, shoulder or bum, is just off the ground when you lay down. When you aren't on it, it will look quite squidgy.
We sleep on an air bed lovely and comfortable. Read a tip on this forum about how to get the right amount of air in your air bed and never looked back, simply fill air bed with air and put valve in, now sit on air bed take out the valve and release just enough air untill your bum just touches the floor and quickly put valve back in. We find this works best for us.
Exped Downmat 7 in summer and Downmat 9 in winter. They contain feathers and stop the cold air coming up from the ground and can be inflated using their own bags. They're brilliant.
Ready beds for our two boys aged 8 and 11, they tried them out overnight at home, and decided they prefer them to their normal beds, one minute to inflate with battery powered pump, (half price at argos if you buy a ready bed.) I like the idea of an inflated matress on a camp bed so we will give that a try.
