Firstly try to keep all the mesh screens closed as much as possible (difficult with 'kiddiwinks' about!). Dont leave any food, drink or rubbish bin/bag uncovered. Always clean up after any food or drink preparation or spillage... That's about as much as you can do, I'm afraid in hot summer weather you're always going to get a few flies and other insects in your tent, just do your best not to encourage them...
I surpose if you have hook up you could get a bug zapper and hang it in the tent. I am not sure if these are still going but my mum used to hang one of those yellow thingys up in every room in the house during hot summers, cant think of the name of hand just now, something like Maphoo, it was like a thin yellow piece of card with a hole in it so you could thread string through it and then hang it up. there is also the very old favorite yes you guest it the trusted " FlyPaper" sticky thing like a roll of film. You can also try Citronella candles, oil burner, and now even an electrified tennis type racket, seems the kids like these.

I remember them - were they called Vapona or something like that. My Mum had them all over the house too but we must have been posh because we had little plastic holders for the yellow strips
Saw the tennis racquet zappers in one of the pound shops at the weekend if anyone's interested.
I heard somewhere that putting pots of parsley near the door stops flies coming in.... never tried it though. If it doesn't work you could always eat it though cos it's a natural breath freshener. Saying that though, why not just not bother with the parsley & breathe on the b*ggers?!!!!

I made fly curtains for our awning - and then took the walls out. I used butter muslin and tied it on. Freind doing similar is going to use velcro. I suspect that you could safety pin it to the zip section if necessary. The other suggestions are fine for evening - we also use the bucket of citronella candle, but it's good to leave the tent open during the day.
