Having recently bought a new Canyon 6 tent, we put it up last weekend just so as we don't make fools of ourselves when we go away on our first trip as campers. Didn't have too much of a problem setting it up, but due to the virtual non-existance of tidy instructions, there are a couple of things we were unsure of and were wondering if any owners out ther could offer some help on a couple of points:
1. When putting up the large bedroom, do you tie the centre of the flysheet to the top of it before raising it with the poles?
2. When pegging down the flysheet, do you peg it to the same place as the bedroom groundsheet(through the rings of the pole pins) or do you pull it away from the groundsheet before pegging?

We were also wondering if it would make any sense to firstly put down a groundsheet which was say 10cm wider all round than the complete tent, (Which would be 625cm x 310cm) and then tuck the extra 10cm up under the flysheet forming an extra bit of draught proofing as well as keeping the bottom of the tent groundsheet clean?

Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received from two newcomers to tenting in our late 50's

Hi Den and Sue,

we have the same tent, and  we do tie the bedroom to the centre of the fly sheet before rasing the poles.

You will have to peg the fly sheet out, away from the bedroom etc., so as rain will run away from you. The same goes for an extra groundsheet, if you made it a bit bigger and it was to come out under the fly then any rain would run inside the tent. But a good idea to have the extra groundsheet so it keeps your tent clean for packing away. We bought a cheap tarp from B&Q for £6.

I know what you mean about the 'so called' instructions, but did find it quite quick to put up, once we got going.

Hope that helps. Happy camping.

Clare.

Thanks Clare for the advice.
The forecast looks promising for this weekend so with a bit of luck we'll be able to try out our new tent ....Really looking forward to it!

   Thanks,

Hi Den and Sue -

We have a Canyon 6 as our 'weekend ' tent ( our main tent is a massive dome one ) and as Clare has answered your questions I'll just say a big  Welcome to UKCS and to camping in general  .You'll love it .

We have also come into camping later ( I'm 43 - hubby is 56 )  but wish we'd started years ago !
