Going camping with some friends, one of them has dug out a Sunncamp Euro but has no instructions. We had a go at putting it up this evening and it is up but not very well. Being a frame tent owner I have no experience of tunnel tents. Which order do you erect it in? It has long elastic sprung poles which thread through the top of the outer tent and the ends attach to the fabric with little pegs, straps underneath, places to peg and guy ropes.

Can anyone help please?

Hi

Just spoke to a friend who has had several Sunncamp tents (including three tunnels) but says he has never heard of a Euro.  He is asking approx how old it is and how many it sleeps.  Also is it a "ring and pin" system (this is where you insert pins into the ends of the poles as opposed to placing the end of the poles into a hole (usually a metal eyelet))?

Cheers

Pauline

Not sure how old the tent is but it sounds like it is a ring and pin tent. When we put it up this evening we threaded the poles through, clippled the straps together under the tent, fixed the pins into the ends of the poles and then pegged it out, but I'm thinking you might be supposed to peg it out earlier.

It has 2 bedrooms at one end which each sleep 2 and there is a little corridor between them and some space behind them.

You were probably right to do pegging last. You need to make sure the tent is all square before you do it.

Peg one end down and work your way down the tent stretching/straightening as you go, then peg the rest.

If the ends of the poles aren't in a straight line you get diagonal lines down the flysheet which make it look like a sack of potatoes or something.

We have a tunnel tent and always peg the 2 back corners first before we start to put it up. Once the pole at the back is up we then loosely guy it so as to support it for when the rest goes up. Once the front pole is up we loosely guy that and then start with the adjustments.

This is the easiest way we have found. By pegging the back 2 corners it stops the tent from thinking it is a giant kite!

Hi

Sorry for the delayin replying, daughter would NOT go to bed. Have now taken her batteries out and put her back in her box!!

Magnolia's suggestion is what we do with our Vango Quest which is a tunnel with two bedrooms at one end.

Speaking to other tunnelers, there seems to be two main techniques, the other being to insert all the poles whilst the tent is laid on the ground, peg out the back corners and then use the front guys to pull the whole tent upright, peg this guy to keep tent standing and then position poles and peg from back to front. (have never tried this).

One top tip for "ring and pin" (which we have on our Sherpa) is to ensure that before you insert the pin, the straps (which are used as a guide to position the poles) are straight (not twisted) and that the pin is in a natural upright position. (Once got this wrong and poles were pulled out of position).

Everyone I spoke to agreed that they usually end up with a corner that does not look right.  Just one more wonder of the world!!

Good luck

Pauline

Thanks very much for the replies. Being able to put it up knowing that this is what others do greatly increases confidence which I'm sure will make the whole thing look much less wobbly!

Another friend is coming tomorrow with a borrowed Vango Vista 800DLX, hope that either contains instructions or goes up in a similar way! (The fun of having a good sized garden!)

HI all - nothing to add to the original question as I think all points have been covered.

Just wanted to welcome pauline as a newish member, especially as you own a Quest 600 and we have one too - not many folks have them on here but it is a great tent and it is a shame they have stopped making them!
