Hi...Im in the process of planning a major continental camping trip for next year and need some tent advise....

After lots of searching on the web the tent that looks most suitable is the Khyam Freelander, are there other tents of a similar design i should consider or would i struggle to find a better tent.

I would like to look at some tents but there dont seem to be any large camping outlets in this area..... can anyone recommend a camping store in Scotland?

Domes with a hooped pod hanging off are not uncommon: Coleman Bi-Space, Wynnster Venus, Royal La Rochelle and, at the larger end of the scale, my own Wynnster Anglesey (not called the Orion for 2006).

As for "better", sorry I don't know your Freelander well enough to comment and make a comparison. There are certainly cheaper options - the Royal version is £75 - SIG versions with more "comfort" (personal view) and polycotton versions to be, well envied by others.

I have Khyam Freelander - there are a lot of similarly shape tents ie standing height living area domes with sleeping tunnel on the market and a lot of them are cheaper.

What marks the Khyam out and makes it unique is that its quick erect poling system makes it the fastest and easiest for one person to get the full height dome up on their own. If that is your priority, then go for it! It is a sound, good quality tent and won't let you down. MT
