I have got two queries I hope people can help me with:

1)  I have heard a few people say that they put a tarpaulin under their groundsheet.  Is this the best thing to do, and where would I get a tarpaulin from and at what cost?

2)  Does anyone know the dimensions of the Coleman Columbia 10, I have looked on the website but the text is too small to read!!  I bought it without really thinking about the dimensions but then I have seen a couple of posts saying some sites won't let you on with certain size tents!

Would be grateful if anyone could shed any light for me.

Thanks

Julie

Hi Julester66,

There have been a number of threads on this subject. Two main reasons - keeps your groundsheet clean (especially useful if you have a SIG), also provides additional protection from any sharp stones etc you missed sticking through the groundsheet. I got a couple of 5m x 4m tarps from Homebase for a tenner each and cut them to fit the footprint of out tent.

Can't help you on the other one I'm afraid (have you looked on other sites to see if there is an enlarged version?)

I got a couple from Lidl's for something ridiculously cheap, like £2 - 3.  I think they are probably around 4 x 6 m, one fits nicely under our bedroom pods anyway.

Hi

Tarps great idea, we always use one. Again, B & Q seems best place to get them from.  Just looked for your dimensions on

www.outdoorgear.co.uk

This is what they state, but check for yourself on the website to make sure I got it right.

DIMENSIONS: 640cm x 620cm [20' 9" x 20' 4"]

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi We got our tarps from the local builder's yard - just a few quid and well worth it. Just remember to take a couple of black bin liners to stick them into once you've used them though - it saves the car getting muddy!

hi julester and welcome to the site

we use a tarp to keep the underside of the tent clean,as its a SIG (sown in ground sheet) as it would need to be cleaned before being re-packed, it also add extra protection from stones etc.

you can buy tarps for most DIY places, and if you want to you can lay one out and pitch your tent on top, then cut around it (carefully!) to make a foot print of your tent.

sorry i cant help you with the dimentions of your colombia though

Julie,

It's always a good idea to call the campsite well in advance and check they have a pitch which will accommodate your tent., the ones I have called were happy to help. Have seen some sites that charge extra for big tents.

Great idea to use a tarp to keep everying clean, it also fills in the gaps between the groundsheet and bedrooms if you don't have a SIG.

Andrew.

We don't have SIG on our tent but we still use a tarp.  Got a huge one from B & Q and took it into the school hall and cut round our groundsheets to get a good fit.  As our tent has three separate groundsheets it stops any gaps and grass peeping throught if you are on a long stay and I just think it makes it more cosy.

Hi we use DPM  (damp proof membrane) it works really well we cut of the length we require and then you can curl it up at the edges so rain does not go under the tent. From Homebase
