hmmm, our Vango tent got bird poo on it and I'd read that you can use a baby wipe, which I did and it worked.

Would plain water get it off? otherwise you might damage the tent and as skatty said, you'll need to re-proof it.

Dont whatever you do use ANY detergent on it ! it will never be waterproof again ,even if you reproof it !!

Pure soap is ok ,but will still need re proofing.

Bird poo? Let it dry and brush it off with a nail brush or toothbrush. (Clearly marked toothbrush!) Same for mud.

Baby wipes often contain alcohol and/or moisturisers...ie grease. I cannot imagine they would be good for any sort of tent. Use water and a soft cloth only. If you really need to clean a canvas tent, use pure soap and cool water (hot can shrink it!) or a proper canvas tent cleaner. You have to rinse every bit out, then let it dry properly, then reproof.

To be hponest, though, all tents get a bit dusty with a few mud stains over time. Tents start getting dirty the minute you lay them out on the grass. It`s normal.

can I ask a question to all you experts as well!

When taking a tent down in bad weather, which usually happens, and you have to take it home wet, and muddy on the sewn in ground sheet how long can it be left in this state without rotting the ground sheet,  I'm assuming mud can rot the ground sheet yes?
