I was just wondering how everyone else pegged theirs - what first.
Watching the video they feed the poles through, then peg out the ends at the base, then do the guy ropes at one end, working their way to the other, it doesn't show them pegging around the bottom of the tent around the base of the poles, we do that ??
I was just wondering how everyone else did theirs and whats the easiest way & generally how long it takes from start to finish to have the tent up and ready to be kitted out.
We're off for our 2nd trip in two weeks and just want to look more experienced, and feel easier whilst outting it up this time!!!
Don't have any tips as ours went up wonky for our first attempt.
However I kept an eye out at cub camp as they have a similar tent just smaller, not sure of name. And they do the poles, then each end making sure it is straight( this is the bit we didn't do!! ) then they peg and guy all round.
we're going on our second trip next week as well, so fingers crossed we can get it right this time!!! might be back in time to post any tips for you tho!!!
I didn't think the video was much help to be honest.
We don't have an Indiana 8 but the vista 800 dlx which is very similar. We get the tent up (if its windy peg a couple of guy lines) and then put the ground sheet in (which is full length and porch) and get that right first. We find it helps to get the tent straight. Once thats ok hubby pegs everything and I do the inside.
We put all of the poles through the flysheet first which helps to weigh the flysheet down. Then start at one and and put the first pole pole up and put a few pegs in to hold the flysheet including the end guy rope.
Move on to the next pole and repeat untill all the poles are in place. We then go back to the first end, make sure we are happy with the position and peg it out properly. Next move the second pole from both sides to make sure you have the tension right and peg around it securely.
Do this until you have all of the flysheet pegged and then finish off by putting out the guy ropes.
Not an expert but this worked for us and kept us secure even in fairly high gusting winds.
The tent was up in around 45 mins with my 11year old daughter and myself.
Looking forward to our next trip, only a week to go!!
With our Vista we form the arches on the ground then peg one end. We pile all the arches on top of each other then with one of us each side we lift them upright then walk them out to the right position (if that makes sense!) then peg the other. Make sure its straight, peg the pole ends, tighten the tensioners, then peg the rest. Works for us!
You do have to make sure its straight or the inners/groundsheet won't fit, and you can tear them.
We do ours in this order and it worked ok. First we feed poles through and have the arches on the ground, start at one end stand the arch up and peg out 1or 2 guide ropes and a couple of pegs at the base. We then get hold of the other end arch and walk it out and position it straight then peg out the guys at that end then walk round pegging the guys finishing with the ground sheet and base of the tent.final check to see if everything is right, usually have to move one end a couple of inches to tension it,then have a beer before doing the inner.
Takes us about 30 mins.15 for the tent and 15 for the ground sheet
