This topic keep coming up at the moment. IF Outwell checked EVERY tent leaving the factory, their price to customers would quadruple due to labour costs. They will therefore sample from batches - this is standard quality control procedure. It is therefore possible that some tents with leaky bits get through the process, and I agree that if it is a brand new 2006 tent it should be replaced. Outwell seem to have good customer services so there should not be a problem. If retailers are offering seam sealant then I think you should contact Outwell.

I wonder if they have changed their manufacturers this year, or changed part of the processes, as there do seem to be more reports of leaky Outwells this year?

Well after reading this thread, I was quite nervous about the rain! but last night we endured a heavy downpour and this morning there was probably about 4 table spoons of water on the floor - a few drips near one of the big front windows, and in about the centre of the tent, which I suppose could have been condensation - then a small puddle near the other big front window - but there was a balloon touching the wall of the tent just there.

We are going to leave it up a few more days, just to make sure.

The one thing we were not prepared for was a 7 year old - too much birthday cake and a trampoline - I'm sure you can imagine!!!

I think Outwell, this year, have been victims of their own success.  They have produced an extremely popular range of tents and have had problems keeping up with demand.  I guess they are trying to get these tents out the door as fast as possible.  I have had 8 Outwell tents since 2004 and not had a problem with any of them.  That was until I bought the Nebraska XL.  I have had many problems with this.  Waiting to hear about a complete replacement at the moment.

Gollowing up from my original post I contacted camperlands, Manchester regarding our leaky Monty 4.

I explained the seam problem to them and they are going to replace the tent with a new one when I'm ready to go in and collect it.  There was no suggestion from them that the tent should be re-sealed.

Based on my experience I have been impressed with the customer service provided by Camperlands.

Well after another downpour, we have a leak in each corner!!

It is where the sig joins to the rest of the tent, in the corner, the material is about triple thickness there and there is a steady drip - nothing major but of course the ones at the back will wet the beds, so I've contacted retailer to see what they say, however I must say we haven't put the tent up spectacularly well, and where it's leaking its possible that the tent touches the groundsheet with the weight of the rain - does that sound feasible???

Wendyxx (who was so engrossed finding the leak - that I forgot about my 3 loads of washing on the line!!!) grrrr

Hi to you all!

We have just purchased a Montanna 4  and took it out for the first time on Sunday  for 2 nights. The Sunday night rained heavy and ours leaked a little from what appears to be from the same area as one of the other replys on here.

The leak appears to be somewhere in the region of the right side of the rainsaver porch where it joins the inner side door on the stitched seam as you look at the porch door from inside the tent. It was dripping onto the floor, and ran under the left hand inner tent.

So will have to contact supplier and see what they say about it!

This is our first tent so not really sure what to expect! We really like it and hope it gets sorted asap as we really enjoyed our first few nights under the stars.

Our 2006 Montana 6 leaks. Yoemans have offered me a "free" can of Fabsil to re-proof it myself...!!! Needless to say they havent heard the end of it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We bought a Nebraska XXL from Yeomans at Ambleside. On the first outing we noticed a minor fault and gave Mark from Yeomans at Ambleside a quick fone call about it. Mark told us to bring the tent straight back, minor fault or not we bought a brand new tent and therefore there should be no faults with it at all. We duly took the tent back and Mark cheerfully gave us a brand new one, no questions asked, no quibbling, just a replacement and a hand shake for OH.

We took the new XXL to Moffat last Saturday. The first night we were there it leaked at all four corners of the main living area.It also had a few faults, hole in fly screen, faulty zip etc, so I foned Mark the next morning and he was amazed, he said he`d never had an Outwell tent returned before, plenty of Vango`s, but never an Outwell and we had had two faulty ones! Mark was genuinely dismayed that yet again we were having problems, but told us he was the supplier so it was up to him to sort it out.

On Monday we were due to leave Moffat and head to Park Foot at Pooley Bridge. Mark asked if we could get the XXL back to him at Ambleside and he would replace it yet again. Mark also said he would like to pitch the tent with us and go over it with a fine tooth comb to check it was OK for us. Unfortunately as I pointed out that wouldn`t help with leaks as we would only find that out if it rained! As it was we took the tent without Mark pitching it to check it for us, as we wanted to get set up at Park Foot. Mark told us if there were any problems at all to just give him a call and he would drive over to sort it out for us.

Luckily for us our THIRD XXL is perfect and leak free. At no stage did Mark ever offer us anything except a full replacement and that was done with good grace, apologies and a genuine desire to help us. I cannot praise Mark and this branch of Yeomans enough.
