Hi all. I've finally persuaded the family to try a camping trip.  But, I don't have a tent.  I would really appreciate if some of you 'pros' could point me in the right direction....

I have around £200-£250 to spend on a 4 berth tent.  It must have a sewn in ground sheet (without this the missus won't go).  Preferably a dome type with enough living space to fit a small table and chairs inside.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

My advice would be to get yourself to a shop displaying various models and then once you have chosen the one that best suits your needs shop around for the best deal on the internet.

If there are 4 of you going get at least a 6 berth tent as I am sure they work out sizes based on dwarfs !

someone posted earlier about the Vango Diablo 600  for £187 it has 2 sleeping pods which will fit 3 in but nicer with 2 in each, we have the Royal biarritz, which is similar and there are 4 o us, its very roomy,

ignore me, just noticed from her post they have removed it from the site, have a look at the Biarritz, though they are cheaper than the Diablo

Hi Lezbez. Where do you live ?

If you are anywhere near Newcastle, then United British Caravans on Sandy Lane, Wideopen, have a brilliant tent display.

They are also selling the Gelert Quebec 8 + 4 for £159 which would probably suit your requirements. http://www.e-awnings.co.uk/ is their website and worth looking at.

Try 'www.qksrv.net/click-1428744-10297635?URL=http://www.wildday.co.uk'. They've usually got some great deals especially at this time of year. Got my tent last august at least half price! Massive lounge, 2 large bedrooms, a large porch for cooking, a back door and plenty of ventilation. (Me and the wife can set it up in 30 mins!) Happy hunting, 'Slainte Mhath!.

I echo the comments above - the best thing is to go to shop/show and see the models you like, packed and unpacked, and then get some pointers as to go bargains.

"4 berth" - is that for 4 people or are you just looking for more space for 2 people?

As for somewhere to start with sig Domes there is the Vango Diablo, as already suggested, plus a few very similar, and well respected, others from Khyam, Wynnster, Aztec, Outwell, Royal, Sunncamp and Coleman. They are all pretty similar, but you might spot a variation you like.

One things with SIG dome like this, is that they pitch inner first, which iss not so desirable if it rains. Rarer ones that pitch outer first are the Outwell Nebraska and Coleman Magellan.

These all pitch reasonably large (spread), another alternative you might want to consider is the Wynnster Orion, which has a single bedroom pod (with a zipped divider) off the big dome, giving it a smaller pitch.

We have a Diablo 900 which I got for £260 it is huge with 3 bedrooms and large living area plus big porch for everything else. I absolutly adore it! It is so cosy when it rains.

I know it can be a pain to put up in the rain but really most tents are when its raining. And although it is big I don't think it's any worse than having a slight;y small tent with a gazebo or day tent for cooking in.

Hunt round and you can get some bargins
