I am thinking of getting a tent from Gwent Camping(Pavillion Showroom,Stow Hill, Newport, Gwent) and i was wondering if anyone out there has had any dealings with them. If you have ,how did you find them to be? What is their service like. I ask because of the problems some of you have experienced with other places.
We popped in there last week to have a look at the tents but didnt buy from them as we knew we could get the tent cheaper elsewhere. Have you checked around for the best price?
Hi Smint - I live about 100 metres from Gwent Camping, so I use them for all the 'bits and pieces' I need.
They're very friendly folk. I haven't made any major purchases there nor had any problems with anything I have bought, but I would have no hesitation in recommending them.
I have a number of friends who have bought tents there and all have been entirely happy with the service.
If you're visiting the 'port, don't forget to make time to visit our Transporter Bridge
Not far - I'll have a go at some directions, but if they fail, just ask anyone
Out of Gwent Camping car park, turn left then immediately right into Friars Road. Go down the hill past the hospital on the left and straight across the main junction with Cardiff Road at the bottom. This brings you onto Mendalgief Road. After the third and last traffic calming obstacle, turn left into Adeline street. After about 50 metres turn right, and at the end of theat road right again. Continue to the next traffic lights (major junction with Newport ABP port directly opposite). Turn left here, and immediately move over to right hand lane to enter right hand filter for the transporter bridge.
You can park at the visitor's centre and have a trip over on the gondola (no charge for foot passengers). If the visitor's centre is open Peter will give you all the information you want (and more besides - so if you're pushed for time don't hesitate to cut him short or you'll be there all day )
We bought our tent and most of our equipment from Gwent Camping, found them very helpful and they were the cheapest I could find for our tent, after trawling for days on t'internet
Gwent Camping, never had a problem with them. Bought our tent there last year and they were the cheapest we could get it. Bought a few other things aswell. We also went to Raglan Camping centre but they were about £100 plus higher than G.C.
As for the Transporter Bridge, It has always frightened me. My Grandad used to tell us he would take us over it and I have never liked it since. A few weeks ago I actually took my push bike over it and there was nothing to it. Come and have a look at it, it's celebrating it's 100th birthday this year.
