I think most of the 'modern' tents seem to be made from polyester (dacron) based materials (excluding the higher quality canvas/cotton materials). All the different manufacturers have their own names for it, like "Wonderweave 5000" "Pro-weave 4000" but in essence most of them are a polyester based mix...
Thanks Andy Pandy, problem is my daughter has been given a Freetime Stardome 5 tent that definitely says it is 100% nylon. We were wondering if it was o.k.
Been trying to find something about your "Freetime Stardome 5"... But I can only find it on Dutch websites, so I'm assuming it's a Dutch make... The Dutch tents, I've come across have all been pretty good... So, just use it and see how things go, though with nylon it would be best not to use a gaslamp or cooker inside it... Perhaps you could pitch it and give the outside a soaking with a sprinkler hose and see if it's waterproof...
Hopefully, someone else will come along, who knows about your daughters tent and be able to give you some useful info... Sorry, I can't give you any useful information...
Thanks for all your help, i think we will take your advice at the week-end, pitch Claires tent and give it the sprinkler test, heres hoping it keeps the rain ( Ha Ha ii mean water) out for her.
I stand to be corrected, but from what I remember nylon tents tend to sag when it cools in the evening and tighten up in the day when it warms up, necessitating some tightening and loosening of guys, etc. Other than that, they are fine.
