Hi peeps

Well I've gone and done it now.For weeks I've been searching through tent info and trying to decide which one to buy. After seeing all of the recommendations on here for the Outwells I went to have a look at some, thinking maybe I'd buy a smaller version as there is only me and my two sons.....took one look at the Monty 6 and fell totally in love with it!However I am now feeling ever so slightly terrifed at the prospect of putting it up with only the help of my 13 year old son.The bloke at the shop assured me it was dead easy to erect, I sure hope he's telling the truth!I'm going camping for a week next Saturday and so need to get to grips with it pretty fast. Can anyone tell me what they're like to put up and if there are any helpful tips that make it easier? Thanks,

Claire

I'm sure someone will reply with the answer to your question too ... just don't like to see the sad face.  Have confidence in yourself you can do it ...

Hi Claire,

Have brought the monty 6 myself - also after initially thinkingof buying the smaller!  Also camping next week, and hoping my 15 year old son will help put it up!!  All I can say is that the replies i got where all really positive, especially it seems to hold up well in the rain!

Good luck!  I am sure we will do fine!  Personally i am packing a couple of cold beers to help!

Ellie

Yes you will be able to do it but the first attempt will be a bit of a challenge but stick with it. I would suggest that you peg the front door end down and then put the first set of roof and leg poles in while your son lifts it from inside at the front door. When the legs are up peg the corner guy ropes to hold it in a near upright position leaning slightly toward the back of the tent. Then insert the remaining three sets until you have the tent upright in a fashion and then peg the back guy ropes to keep it all upright. You can then peg out the remained of the groundsheet and straighten up the leg poles and peg each set of guy ropes to get it neatly upright. You will then be able to tension and straighten everything until you are happy that it is done.

Thanks Nigel, that sounds like a plan lol.I'm gonna hijack my mums back garden tomorrow and have a go.It doesn't sound too bad.If I get really stuck on hols I can always resort to throwing myself on the floor and crying, sure some kind soul will take pity on me.Good luck Ellie, I'm sure we can manage it!

Don't worry they are very easy to erect and you can do it quicker every time.

Don't be daunted by the thought of putting your tent up. Personally i find the putting of my tent up the most relaxing part of my holiday( maybe i'm weird!!), just take your time with it and don't look at it and think 'jees i gotta get this thing up in 20 mins'. Inevitably it will be a bit hard/awkward until you learn your way around it but it'll get much easier with time.

Hello Claire

Here are my hubby's top tips for the montana!  Hope they help!  My husband had to put our tent up with my 8 year old son at Whitsun because I had a really bad back.  It was no problem at all.  In fact it was great for my son because he thrived on the responsibility!

Lay it out (on a tarp if you want to protect the SIG)
Open the zips slightly (to prevent vacuum)
Loosely peg the 4 corners
Feed the 4 roof poles into the sleeves
Loosen all the straps for the pins which insert into the bottom of the leg poles (for later)
Assemble all the legs and lay out adjacent to the roof poles
Let out all guys and leave loose (for later)
*****Insert the two legs into the rear roof pole (best done with 2 people) and lift
Insert the pins into each side of rear leg poles and tighten straps (difficult to do if you didn't previously loosen straps)
Clip tent to pole legs
Whilst one person holds the poles, the other guys out the rear of the tent*****
Repeat  from ***** to ***** for each set of leg poles

Don't erect the tent too high or else the SIG will be too baggy.
Zip up all doors properly and then guy out

Loosen straps for poles on rainsaver porch and insert poles (this is quite fiddly) and tighten straps
Peg out and insert bathtub groundsheet

Our rainsaver porch pole is very tight.  According to Langleys (Steve) it might be a fault and you should be able to get a shorter one.

Good luck and have fun!
