Do these have to be off the ground when cooking? if so can anybody advise me on what I can place them on when cooking that will cost very little please.
Our friends (that we camp with) put theirs on the ground. Actually, thy seem to work better than my Campingaz Chef....bigger ring gives out more heat (if you get my meaning)!
I've just been away for 5 days with a Gelert one of these (exactly the same just different branding).
Used it on the ground no problem.
Also used it on top of a hefty cardboard box (banana box) when my back started aching - underside doesn't get too hot. Don't tell any of the safety brigade though - this will break every rule in the book! Certainly don't do this unless you're outside of the tent in an open space.
I have oe of these too, the only thing to watch out for is when there is a wind blowing. In case the flame goes sideways and over the compartment which holds the gas cylinder, making it very hot. Just be careful to have a windbreak around it.
i have a similar one, they are very stable, so i just sit it on one of the plastic boxes i store all the camping gear in,turned upside down. Saves the sore back as you can sit on a chair in front of it while cooking. If you look closely at picture in my gallery, you can see OH cooking the tea on it.
I don't seem to be able to view the page of your link, but I think it is the same cooker we have. We normally sit it on the black box it comes in if it's only for a few minutes to boil some water, and it fits perfectly well (providing the ground is level) on one of those metal stands for disposable barbecue that they sell in B&Q.
