Ok so I finally managed to pitch my montanna 6, it was a bit of a struggle but got there in the end.The problem came when it was time to pack it away. How the heck do you get the air out of the tent and roll it into a small enough bundle to fit back in the bag?I tried for 2 hours with no joy, I just can't seem to roll it tight enough, and end up with a huge pocket of air at the end.I've got a sinking feeling that I've made a big mistake and should have stuck to a smaller model. Also when it was erected it seemed to be pulled over to one side more than the other.is there a way to get it more central as the groundsheet couldn't lie flat.

HELLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

Sorry, can't really help but I do seem to remember reading somewhere that it helps to have the door unzipped to let the air out.

yes leave the front door open, i fold into the size of the bag then lie down on top of the tent at one end then just roll across to get most of the air out, ok you look like a fool but it works for me!

I found that the easiest way to pack our Monty 6 was to leave all the doors open, and fold from both ends to the centre until it was about 3/4 of the bag size. This means that you will have an open door  very close to your centre and it seems to be easier to get the air out.Like Nwestwood I then roll along it to get all the air out and then roll it up as evenly as possible. We took our Monty out today to dry it after packing in the rain yesterday. Took about 10 minutes from folding to get it back in the bag.

hi, we don't have a Monty but the SV8 - still lots of people seem to struggle putting any of the larger tents away for the first few times.  There is a real knack to each tent, its just finding it!!  We struggled for a while but found that by folding the tent into thirds and then half makes it the right size for the bag.  Hubby then tightly rolls from one end whilst I keep flattening the tent ahead of him keeping the edges together. Once rolled he then unrolls it again and repeats. Fits in every time! Hope it helps.

We have the Montana 4 and am sure it needs folding and rolling the same as your 6 . We just leave the front door unzipped , fold it lengthways then roll it from the back towards the front door. The air comes out as you roll it.

Our bag is more like a case with wheels on it whick looks smart but takes up too much room in the top box. Lord knows where that idea comes from we preferred the bags.

Hello again Claire!

Here are hubby's top tips for packing away!  I pinched them from another thread.

"We haven't had any problems getting the Monty back in the bag.  After you have lowered it and removed all the poles and pegs make sure the doors are open, this will let the air out and make it easier when re-erecting next time.  Have to hand the tie cords to tie the tent up when you have rolled it as explained later on.

Pull the four corners out so that the SIG is tight.  Fold in half lengthways so that the ring pins are all on one side.  Make sure the pins all point out otherwise they may puncture the SIG/tent.

Fold in half again along its length so that the width is now the same as the width of the bag.  Normally I now lie on one end and "rolly-polly" along the tent to squeeze out the air.  Now fold the rear into the middle of the tent then the front to the middle.  Then, fold in half again where these two ends meet.

Squeeze out any air left in again and roll up along the length making sure the pins are still on the outside.  As you roll it up tuck in any loose material to keep a tight bundle.  Lift one end and slide the tie cord under (I told you earlier to have these to hand!)  then tie up, repeat with the other tie.

Bend at the knees (health and safety!) and pick up the tent.  When putting into the bag lay one end of the tent in first tight to the end on the bag and then the weight of the tent should make the rest just fit snuggly.  Make sure the pins are at the top again to prevent puncturing.  Lay in the peg bag and the door mat and it should zip up relatively easily.  Make sure any loose material is tucked in so as not to snag it on the zip.

Voila!"

Once you've done it a couple of times, it's easy peasy!

Good luck!

Claire

As far as centralising is concerned, when the tent's up on the legs, check that the fabric through which the roof poles go is centralised. The fabric 'tube' goes just outboard of the joint of roof pole to leg pole when central. Do this before clipping the plastic clips to the legs.

Also, you can adjust things slightly to get a better shape by lifting and moving around the legs independently.

You'll get there with some practice - it will become a lot easier.
