Just a short note to tell y'all how we got on with our new tent. Did have a Royal Garonne 6 - well, had two actually, consecutively! When the second one was replaced due to quite serious leaks we decided to abandon it for a new model.
After a tentless spell we opted to go for the much raved about Vango Diablo & started to trawl the net for the best price. Some availability issues caused me to consider the Wynnster Cygnus 6. Boy am I glad!
Nothing against the Diablo but just had a wonderful weekend in this Diabloesque tent! Plenty space, & the extra pole in the bedrooms do make a really noticeable difference as it makes the whole bedroom feel more airy & less claustrophobic.
Anyway - just thought i'd pass on my findings - & at £200 incl. delivery from Allweathers it was even cheaper than a Diablo!
After a couple of trial runs using borrowed tents decided to invest in our own. Took a while to decide and spent a few weekends looking round displays. Hadn't really considered the Cygnus until I stumbled across it and was immediately sold on it - SIG, Porch, large living area and plenty of headroom in the bedrooms. Better still Allweathers had the Cygnus 8 for £224 which was duly ordered and arrived following day. Was even provided with a tracking number so I could plot its progress to the north east!
Anyway, totally chuffed (pleased!) with the tent and the service from Allweathers.
Purchased a Cygnus 8 from Allweathers today. Its my first tent so I'm looking forward to putting it up next week.
Prices are down slightly on the 6 and 8, so its worth asking for a price match. (World of Camping are now doing the 6 for £192)
Was not chuffed at the thought of missing out on a saving of £8 from World of Camping so had a look at their site. Turns ouot the delivery charge to the scottish highlands would've made it more expensive than what i paid - so i'm still a happy bunny!
The tent arrived today but I'm not going to get a chance to put it up before we go camping on Monday. Is there anything in particular I should watch out for when putting it up for the first time?
Also I've seen Vango have instruction videos for their Diablos. Is there anything similar for the Wynnster?
Not really Twotanks, it's actually quite straightforward - the only thing i've learnt - (bearing in mind i've only pitched mine 3 times so far) - is to leave the poles out of the bedrooms & dont peg the bedrooms until the flysheet is over the top of the dome.
The dome is quite high on mine - & im assumin the Cygnus 8 is bout the same. Leaving these poles allows you to get closer to the dome to try & manouvre it over the top. The instructuions say you can use the flysheet porch pole to help in getting it over but we tried it & frankly found it easier to just manhandle it over & then fit the porch & bedroom poles.
No idea about a video i'm afraid - but lets face it - if you need a video to pitch it - its far too complicated!!
We found that by holding the flysheet either side of the dome, and one throwing it up (still holding on to it) and the other person pulling at the same time we got the flysheet over quite easy.
Well, just back from a magnificent five night camp. Another family who have a Wynnster tent gave me a hand to pitch it and it was quite straightforward. Now that I know how its done, it shouldn't present any problems next time.
As far as the Cygnus 8 is concerned, it was terrific. Plenty of room, and it was great being able to stand in the bedrooms. The sewn in groundsheet kept out the drafts, creepy crawlies and the rain.
At £215 delivered to N.I. from Allweathers, I think it was the best choice I could have made.
If it hadn't been for this site, I would have bought one of the many not so well known brands on Ebay. Am I glad I didn't!
Does anyone have trouble with the "toggles" which are used to secure the flysheet to the poles (the ones located on the inside of the flysheet). I found they kept working loose and had to keep refastening them, although it was very windy when we were away last week ( and we were pitched on top of a hill with no shelter).
Martytoon - yes I found the toggles would work loose, however if they are tightened by pulling the draw cord through the toggle until the toggle is tight against the pole then I found they did much better.
