 Hi everbody.

After reading these boards think the above tents seem the most suitable for us. Really want a 3 bedroom with SIG. Are they both the same size, are there any major differences. Posted recently as I saw  moonraker 9 on display in Mountain Warehouse for £249, but I guess this must'nt be a popular one

So pleased I came across these discussions before we bought new tent.

Thanks to anybody who can help.

They are very similar, but the hartford isnt quite as big.

If you need the full capacity, to sleep 9, go fort the Diablo, but if you want a better chacge of fitting on your pitch, go for the hartford, which sleeps 6 comfottably.

Another option is the hartford xxl, which has 4 x 2 man pods, but otherwise is still smaller than the Diablo. It has the advantage of a back door that can be used without having to go through a bedroom.

The diablos have a bigger porch, but you can get a fantastic porch extension ( a bit like a gazebo, but tunnel shaped ) that fits onto the front of the Hartford, massively increasing the living space, especially if the weather is bad. This does give you a tent which needs a 10 m x 10 m pitch, but you would need this anyway for the diablo. The hartford needs about 8m x 8m.

In the end, they are very similar, both good brands.

Weve avoided the Diablo, purely because its a little bigger than some pitches. We have the canopy for our Hartford xl, which we can choose not to use if the pitch is a bit small.

Hope this helps, as we were in the same dilema a few years ago. We will probably change to a hartford xxl next time, so our 3 kids get a bedroom each, and we have a more usable back door. Its only a few cm bigger than the XL and still smaller than the Diablo 900.

We're just in the process of buying a Diablo 900 (£300.00 outdoor megastore.) Having owned a Diablo 600 for 2 years which ripped in 70 mph winds on Dorset Coast in early July we are not put off. Three poles also broke but the tent remained standing, and if not for the rip we would have just replaced the bust poles. The inside is huge, so if you do get bad weather everyone can sit around in comfort. The tunnel is another big reason we're going for it, and now the 2006 model has a side door, it is even more useful.
Pitch size is not a problem for us, we're quite happy to pitch on farmers field with just a cold tap for comfort. A bit smelly for a few days - but who cares, for me that's what camping is all about.
The quality of the Diablo is great.
Hope this helps.

we have owned both tents and its difficult to choose a favourite.   as said earlier, the hartford XL is smaller than the diablo 900 but we found it easier to erect and the poles seemed more sturdy.   we love the extra room in the diablo and the larger porch is much more practical than the one in the hartford xl.   If space is more important then go for the diablo.    If its quality then I think the Hartford XL has the edge.    Both great tents though and the SIG is a must!

I have just placed an order for a Hartford XL with canopy from world of camping GBP238.99 and GBP62.99.

Hartford won it for me in the end having been to see one and thinking how light airey and spacious it was combined with the fact I have read one or two negative comments about the Diablo on here, difficutl to put up, broken poles etc... I

I am sure it's a good tent but it just strikes me the Hartford has the edge on quality as a previous poster commented.

Best of luck with you purchase.

Like Harvey31, I've owned both of these tents too.  Replaced the Hartford with the Diablo because of the great porch.  Thought the Diablo was slightly easier to erect but they really are so similar, both great tents. Can't remember if the Hartford had a back door but that is great on the Diablo too.  Use the porch for the kitchen and wardrobes which frees up all the glorious room in the middle of the tent.
