We had our first camping trip last weekend (I'm totally hooked) and planning on going again on Friday!!!  Our only slight problem is that in the morning the condensation was dripping off the inside of the outer tent.  There were 2 adults and 4 children in a Hartford M.  The first night we left only the mozie nets up but were too cold, the second night we closed the whole thing up and then had the problem with condensation.  Him indoors insists that it's just all of us breathing in there all night that caused it.  Also on the first night (bearing in mind that the temperature that day was very hot) everything felt very slightly damp.  Any ideas or do we just have to put up with this?

condensation is a problem i would try to let as much air as possible in, even in the day, but it should'nt be to bad in the inner tent. When we used to go camping (got a caravan now ) we put all are clothes in a ruck sack or covered them up at night times.

Condensation is extremely common in modern synthetic tents. But there are a few things you can do to reduce it....

...first and foremost, ventilate the tent as much as possible, both at night and first thing in the morning.

...don`t boil anything inside the tent.

...don`t bring wet coats into the tent, or wet towels etc. Dry them in the car.

But to be honest, six of you inside a tent that size are going to be producing a lot of puff, and you can`t do much about that. Is it possible to leave one or two windows open just a fraction, and keep the sleeping pods zipped up tighlty?

Ventilation is the only answer but even then you can end up with a dripping living area. We camp at the coast and it is depended on which way the wind is blowing as to how sever the condensation is. Blowing off the sea and we are going to have a good dose of condensation in the morning.

Many thanks to all of you.  Now its been pointed out to me I do remember at one point there were 6 wet towels and 4 lots of wet clothes in the tent (it was so sunny all the kids went into the sea with shorts and t-shirts on).

Many thanks again for all your ideas and I'll let you know on Tuesday if things have improved.

Angela

I remember seeing that documentary where they copied those guys that walked off the mountain range after a plane crash.

The condensation was so bad, and due to the freezing conditions, it actually snowed on them during the night inside their tent.

I am a novice camper so my suggestion may be completely crazy  - but.... has anyone ever tried those absorbant thingy's you used to be able to get that sat on window sills to soak up the condensation?  Do those work and where would you buy those nowadays?
