We have a 30 year old frame tent and its getting a iffy now!!
I'm looking at getting a new tent so off I went to the local camping shop and looked around their tent display.
Saw some very nice dome or tunnel tents. The lady in the shop said that you cannot cook inside them as it can melt the fabric or catch fire!
While we were in Cormwall last week I saw plenty of people cooking in theirs - what is the general opinion here - to cook or not to cook in this type of tent!!
Thanks

Some people do and some don't. We cook in the porch, others have a separate tent for cooking. It is highly unlikely that the tent would catch fire as most are inflammable. Have to admit though I'd rather avoid cooking!
------------- Are you sure you've read the instructions?
I have camped for years and have always carefully cooked inside. This year I decided to cook outside as I have changed my tent to a vango venture and the sides are quite sloped. Last week during the high winds we had to move inside to cook and I am now the proud owner of a tent with a melt hole in it.
I would say cook outside if at all possible. I have now bought a porch to cook in to stop this happening again. There are always kitchen tents to cook in.
we always tend to cook outside except on the occassions its lashing it down (lilke last weekend) then we just moved cooker into the porch and cooked from there.
thanks - prehaps I'll stick to the frame tent with kitchen!
Unfortunately I have to be near our Autistic son as he is a bit of a houdini and can run off at any time. Now he's 12 he's getting faster!!!
Have finally found a campsite that has space for us next week and are willing to have us!! Can't wait for Monday!!!

I can highly recommend the Outdoor Revolution 'Outhouse' as a standalone kitchen tent. Room to fit a camp kitchen unit, large Igloo cooler, gas bottles, a couple of those large green plastic supermarket crates, and cook safely, with no clutter in your tent. Tiny footprint, smaller than most utility/day tents. Discounted offer through the shop page.
Im not on a bung, I just think they are good !

I've had 3 dome type tents now and have always cooked inside using a shelved camp kitchen. As long as you keep the cooker a safe distance from sides don't see no problem. Always check by putting hand around back & check for hotspots, tent has barely ever got warm.
Thanks littleimp, my camp kitchen has a wind shield on three sides so I'll try feeling behind it next week while I'm away and see how warm it gets - didn't think of that!!
