Need some advice on what tent to buy for 2 virgin campers.  Husband and I (at ripe old age of 59 and 55 - me being younger of course) have decided to buy a tent and go camping.  Have looked at Gelert Seattle 400 and like layout but would appreciate advice from all you old timers out there.  Also need advice on first time camp sites bearing in mind we like some peace and quiet - ha ha.

look on the uks sites page type in the area you want to go then read the reviews theres an awful lot of nice looking sites out there. as for tents general consensus appears to be decide how you want to use it eg weekends or longer look at reliable brands and decide how much you want to spend (don't forget to see it in the flesh before you buy) then go out into the big wide world and have a great time. welcome to uks sorry I am no real help but all the real campers have gone camping.

nice one rowan46. your right. make sure you see in the flesh and IMHO you can stand up too.regarding the site reviews ther may be some that are adult only or better still go out side the school hoildays. you could also make sure there is no entertainment even if there is a pub/club on site. have a look in the search above

Are you wanting something small or a larger tent? If you want room to manourvre then I suggest a Cabanon frame tent. You can buy small ones, we bought one off Ebay for £100 and it is excellent, we have a caravan now but still keep the frame tent just in case! We bought a dome tent a few years ago and it is still sat in the garage after just one use as we couldnt stand up in it, nearly put us off camping as we felt as though we were stooped over all holiday! We also have a huge Cabanon with an extra bedroom on the side, that one is like a bungalow! They are so easy to put up, just mark the poles up and away you go. Our small tent is up and pegged down in 20 minutes!
