We have just been on our first ever camping trip in our new Khyam Rigipod Classic. Excellent trip. Is it OK to cook inside your tent? If so, what precautions do you take as to not damage your tent? Any advice on cooking in your tent or what cooker stand to use would be much appreciated. We have a Campingaz Grillogaz Nouveau Double Burner And Grill.
well have 2 admit we cooked in the tent last weekend as it was pouring and though it was also windy it was ok as their was only 3 of us in the tent & i made the kids stay in the car or they were playing outside. Not something i would do often but it woz worth it for the bacon n sausage sarnies..... it is awkward with the bad weather & you cant really keep on buyin gextra gear when u havent the room to carry it really..you could go on forever with the gear... hence were looking for a trailer for next year...
Hi Scottie, You can either get a kitchen tent or cook under umbrella's like us. Or there are canopied windbreaks avaialble that would perform the function very well. See below link
We have always cooked inside and never had a problem. We are always as careful as can be and never leave the gas unatended and always make sure the stove is as flat as possible with no "wobbles" and we always keep the stove a few feet away from the side of the tent.
Hi all, unfortunately we have seen someone who was very careful and attentative cook in the tent and set the tent on fire. This was in St Ives a few years ago. The tent had completely gone in about 30 seconds. Thanks to some of the other campers they got out safely with help, luckily no kids or pets with them. After this would never ever take the risk here. It was very frightening to watch.
I would never again cook in or near my tent. I set up my cooker just outside the door and everything was fine for a while but all of a sudden with a gust of wind the flames from the cooker blew along the regulator and set the gas canister on fire. I had my young daughter in the tent so left the fire and rushed round to the other door to get her out. We were both fine and only a very small part of the tent got burned. I was just lucky. I always take my cooker into an open area and if it's raining then I either wait for it to stop or use an umbrella. It's just not worth the risk!
Hi Hazel, glad to hear you and your family are good after this episode. Us to here will never cook in or near the tent after our experiences either. A lot safer to cook away from the tent. We use a wind break around our cooker but take a look at the Khyam Canopied Windbreak very useful for a kitchen.
