Hi, today i have had my new tent delivered from UK campsites.  The Vrx500s from OutDoor Revolution and I must say i have come up in the world slightly compared to my pro action 4.

Anyway back to the tent. I decided to have a go at putting it up in the garden with a trusty helper my dad.  At first it was a hassel to thread the first pole through. Infact it did not seam that it would fit in the pin. But from getting that first pole through the other two were fine from then on.  We later realised that the first poles pin was slightly tangled making it a tighter fit.  And we soon sorted that out.

The tent was begining to take shape and it was becoming apparent of the overall size. A Medium sized tent with loads of head room.  306cm ish wide and the living area has over 280cm when measured.

After pegging out I inserted the inner tent and the ground sheet.  I was disapointed  with the inner divider as it had a gap in the bottom giving less privacy for someone in a sleeping bag.  I sorted that by pegging extra material to lesson the gap.

The Groundsheet for the living area leaves virtually no gaps so it is similar to a Sig if layed out correctly.  I slightly lifted the ends up to make a flap although somehow a spider made its way in, mind you i had not put the groundsheet in far enough so there was a gap near the bedrooms.

The sun was shining so i opend the sky light and the 4 windows, the two front and the two side by side ones giving the tent ample light and a decent view of the sky and garden.  .It was at this point when I realised I had made the right decision to buy this tent.

Shortly after the heavens opened and when it rains it pours especially onto the tent.  Then the wind blew quite hard so i pegged out the guide ropes and it withstood the shaking better.  Inside no water leaked in and the only water that did get in was when I opened the door to get in and out.  With the advantage of having a seperate ground sheet i shaked it dry when the rain finally stopped.

I have not gone camping or spept in it yet but i can't wait to go at the end of this month.

All in all trial and error of putting it up correctly this is a very good quality tent and worth the money.  It may be a bit of a squeeze in the living area for 5 people at a guess but for any less you will get on fine.

Ps it also has hooks to hang lights up in the living and sleeping areas.

I love the quality of these tents. The Scenic 5.0i is brilliant and just the ticket for us 2 oldies.

I do have to agree with you on the living space front but that is common in many tents

I tried to sleep in the tent last night but ended up giving up due to a load of loud banging coming from the railway through out the night.

Do you have any tips on pitching a tent properly.   I struggle to thread the poles through and it is even worse getting them out.  Even the ring and pin system is a pain sometimes.  Is there a certain way to place the ground sheet inside too?  Oh i have also noticed what looks like tention straps could they help? Although im not a camping newbee as such I do seam to have re occouring problems with this and my proaction.   Any tips please?

The tension straps need to lie flat across the floor of the tent. They are there to assist the general shape of the tent and to make sure the poles are positioned correctly. The ring and pin can be a pain in the 'arris at first but we have found that if we do the pins on one side then both of us go to the other side and while one is putting the pin in the other is pulling the tent over the poles. This has been the easiest way we have found

We always have a tarp under our tent to keep it clean and the VRC 5.0i has a full inner with SIG.

Ill try that just before i go camping.    Any tips on making a divider a better one?  I think the current one lets the tent down.

A quick rundown of features.

Ring and pin, tention straps

6 windows 4 main windows, 1 skylight window and 1 long thin rear

3 doors, Tapes seams, easy fit bag, mud flaps, canopy and poles, light hooks, with what looks like rings to thread wires through. Enough room for 5 at a push,  anymore?

Excellent finishing and quality. Feels very solid and secure.

Any more?

Hi all, I've not got one of these (yet!) and not too sure if I should get one - since I want to go camping solo, mostly, but could have a friend along occasionally. (I know it's *rather* a big tent for someone on his own..)

I used to have a hefty cotton frame tent back in the seventies, so got used to having lots of space while camping, and since then I've had caravans while my wife was alive.

But now I'm on my own I want to get a bigger tent again, but have concerns that this one might be tough to erect singlehandedly . Any comments here from folks who know the 500S?

It looks like a real bargain at the price advertised here!

Thanks
Ian

I would think it would be doable for one. Its only a 3 pole tunnel so once you get your pins in and peg the back corners you should be able to stand it up without much difficulty.

hi there, I am quite interested in the Scenic 5.0i,  please could someone tell me if the gap at the bottom of the bedroom divider mentioned in a post above isin the 5.0i or just the 500s as I think it would annoy me abit.  mind you if we bought camp beds we'd be higher off the ground so it wouldnt matter.  cheers

I cannot answer your question about the divider as we have never used ours. Its just the 2 of us so we dont need it.
