Have just looked at Outwell Oregon 5 yesterday and really liked but as it will be our first camping acquisition would be grateful if anyone has any comments on this tent.  There will just be the two of us and suspect we will camp for max of 4 days at a time at the moment.  Can you cook inside this OR WOULD THAT BE ASKING FOR BIG TROUBLE.

Looked at the Monty 6 (took me ages to work out what you meant as I haven't learned "tent speak" yet) but think it might be a bit big for us as complete novices.  Very nervous about whole thing although also very excited - big step to take after years of travelling abroad.  Sure we will make complete fools of ourselves initially but hopefully the whole experience will be so great that any little hiccups will not matter.  Now I just need to spur OH into action to buy tent and plan our first trip (although not sure whether to wait until kids back at school!!!!!)

I have just returned from our first trip away with a new Oregon 5. We stayed in Strandhill in Co. Sligo. We arrived on site after 9pm and it was getting quite dark and still had no problems getting the tent erected. I think it took less than 15 minutes. That was 2 of us not really working that hard ( Derry City v Cork City was on the radio, and this was commanding as much attention as the tent). In saying that, I believe it would be difficult enough for one person to erect, especially in high winds.

Weatherwise, we had high winds, rain and sunshine (all in one day), the campsite is right on the Atlantic Coast, and the tent coped admirably with all of this. It does move about a lot more in the wind than our frame tent though.

Room wise, the tent was excellent for 2 adults and one child. I would see no problems in using a tent this size for week long trips. We did chose to cook in the tent. We were using my trusty 20 year old trangia, and a modern gas stove, with no problems. There is loads of headroom both in the bedrooms and the porch area.

hi cccc it was easy to put up only 3 cored poles you could put it up by yourself if u start at one end by lifting the end pole then fixing the guy rope this should hold it up then do the same with the next one.etc i had it up like this to dry it out and it was easy enough. you can tighten and peg out after it is standing. hope this helps. i would go to a camp shop that has them on displayif there is one near you as this would give you a better idea.

I quite like the look of this tent - decent HH and weight, but as I'll be camping alone sometimes I wasn't keen on the side door opening straight into the sleeping pod - is that right? I know it would only take a sharp knife to get into it anyway but the idea of it was a bit unnerving!

Thanx Angie, it's obviously a psychological thing and the airing is a useful thought. I need something easy to set up alone.

My hubby borrowed an Oregon 4 for an overnight trip with my son last weekend.  The headroom is considerably lower than the Oregon 5 (which you can stand in). You have enough headroom in the 4 to just about sit on a chair.  They had two chairs and a table inside when it was raining.  They used the side door into the living area instead of the front door as the slope of the front was good for storage boxes etc.  Also, if it's raining and you open the front door all the rain water drips off the door onto the groundsheet because of the slope.  My husband did also reluctantly cook inside but opened a door for ventilation.  Despite the downpour they were nice and dry inside.  He said it was a great tent.
