Hi - just had a lovely weekend away in the Monty 6 - the second time we have pitched it. We tried an idea I had picked up on here of putting the roof bars in then raising the tent leg by leg... it seemed to be easier (and it certainly came down easier doing it that way).

My question is: I have noticed that both time we have pitched this tent that the ground sheet is off the ground at the side with the porch (and tension straps) and more baggy at the other side. Is that because you lay the tent out, pitch it, then tension it pulling the tent towards the porch side?

Do you have to do up the tension straps (what purpose do they serve)? and does anyone try to make their sig sit flat or is it just me having that problem? Or is it more to do with what angle the upright poles are at?

Thanks for any further tips on this.

Our groundsheet is off the ground as well and we didn't even notice tension straps!  We've only pitched it twice so maybe with a bit more practice it might be better.

I spoke to a guy at Outwell about this. The groundsheet lifts because of the side porch. It helps if you leave the porch down until last. Get the main tent nicely spaced out etc, then put some pegs through the rings at the bottoms of the centre poles on both sides of the tent. When the porch pole goes in these stop the tent floor from stretching and lifting. It works, but doesnt completely eliminate it. Its just a design characteristic. Some people on here have shortened the porch pole. I will try this next time we go away. I am also playing with an idea I had to make some brackets so that the ends of the porch pole press against the poles, rather than the inner tent.
