I also have another question someone wont mind answering it for me.  Last time we went camping, I cooked outside, mainly due to the fact that the tent was so small, but now that we have the avignon, I was wondering if it would be ok to set the cooking area up in front of the side door, and then just open the door and attach the porch poles, so that a) you don't get as much wind and b) if it's raining (which looks like it will be according to weather forcast) I'll be in in the dry.

I realise it's not safe to cook in a tent incase of fire, but I thought if there was no fabric behind stove or near to sides would it be ok?

Your views would be very grateful,

Linda

Hi Oraya,
I think that if you are careful, and I am sure that you are, there is no reason why you should not cook in your tent as long as it is big enough and your cooker is away from the canvas. After all, all trailer tents come with cookers for just this purpose....cooking inside the tent. Just make sure you have the usual safety stuff around, a fire blanket and extinguisher etc.
Have fun!

we have had to cook in tent in high winds and rain! its not ideal and not as good as cooking outside, but as long as you are careful, it will be fine.

Hi oraya as you so rightly state it is not wise / safe to cook in the tent especially with a young family. You should cook away from your tent in either a utility tent or behind a windbreak or something suitable. We use a windbreak and have no issues what so ever, no matter what the weather. We have seen the most careful campers in the world manage to set fire to there tent and only with the help of other campers manage to get out, lucky no kids or pets otherwise could have been a different story. Big tent and gone in 30 seconds max. A lady in here a week or so ago had her gas bottle catch light whilst cooking in the tent. No matter what the weather I would only cook outside, its a site that you can't forget seeing a tent go up in flames. It only has to happen once.....
