It's come to that time of year again and we have our hearts set on the Outwell Sun Valley 8.  Does anyone have any experience with this tent?, good or bad?

I've been looing around and the cheapest I can find it is £299.95 at Yeomans.

http://www.yeomansoutdoors.co.uk/products.asp?recnumber=1005

Is this a good price or anyone know anywhere any cheaper?

Cheers,

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Can't comment as an owner but we were pitched next door to one in weymouth last week, pretty windy with loads of rain during the night but the owners were still very pleased with it.

Do a search on it, as there have been some issues on quality with it earlier in the year (can't remmeber what they were - but a search will pick the threads up).

Personally, I think it a fine tent everytime I see it.

Our friends bought one at the start of the season and LOVE it.  Infact, now, as i type, they are away for the weekend.   They said that every time they put it up it looks better than the last

We have a Sun Valley 8 which we purchased last season.  I was in the habit of buying a new tent each year but since we got this last year I havent wanted to change as I cant find anything that matches the SV8.  We only use the two large bedroom pods at the back and take the smaller 3rd one down for more space in the living area.

I like the fact its got 3 doors which can all be opened up if its hot, has lots of windows so doesnt feel like I'm closed in when we're all shut up unlike our previous tent the Diablo 900.  The massive porch area is what we use as our kitchen and storage area which then means we have lots of space in the living area.

We have last years model which only has a few minor differences to this years model s in the two large sleeping pods are now one large one with a zip in the middle, the EHU zipper in the porch area and the storage pockets.

I dont think you will find any problems with this tent at all.  It takes us around 20 mins to pitch and last time we used it we had what was like a mini hurricaine and the tent stood up really well to this.  Its a great tent and well worth the money.

Hope you enjoy your purchase.

Tracey

Wow, that's a good price!  Earlier in the season the cheapest anywhere was £400.

It is a great tent.  Do make sure you fully check it over and try put it up before using it though  - I'm sure the door zip problems have gone away but a friend of mine had no poles with hers!

What sold it to us was the combo of SIG and non-SIG (bucket groundsheet) in the very useful porch.  Keeps SIG clean as all dirty/wet stuff can be taken off and kept in the large porch.  Plus you can sit in the porch area open or half open at night whilst the rest of tent is closed up and thus protected from insects.

Lots of zips to open for a quick escape to the loos though!

My oH can even put it up alone now (despite it being a billed a 2 person job) in about 20 mins.  We bought an extra large tarp from B&Q for £8 to put under the SIG which keeps the whole tent clean (dirty SIG bottom gets rest of tent mucky when packing up).

It is heavy and bulky though.

Good luck

Hi andy11221. I have searched the internet and no where on line can come close to £299, so this seems like a very good price. It could be that it is last year's model but thanks to Andrew&Tracey great piece above, you can see there does not seem to be a great deal of difference between the 2005 & 2006 models.

Hope you enjoy your new tent.

Hi everyone. As of yesterday I am the proud owner of a Sun Valley 8, cost £299 at Go Outdoors. Have put it up in the garden and thankfully the zips are fine (hadn't read that thread until after we had pruchsed it!). It's this years model and the bedroom is the combined 3+3. Off to B&Q later to get a tarp.
