Just put up the new tent in 1 hour 40 minutes, in pouring rain with 4 year old 'helping'. Plenty of curtain twitching, the neighbours can't say that we don't provide entertainment can they?

The tent looks great, and I'm really excited about our 2nd (ist in this tent) camping trip next weekend.

I just wondered, as me and my hubby were putting the tent up, and while I was holding the tent up against the wind-the thoughts that went through my mind. I grit my teeth while he takes his time carefully pinning the tent poles etc. I wondered what went through fellow campers minds in similar circumstances and contorted positions while errecting tent? Waiting on partner to do his/her bit.

Oh dear have I finally lost it?

Waiting for your partner to 'do his/her' bit is the most frustrating part about putting up a tent

This reminds me of our last camping trip trying to put up our tent in a howling gale & pouring rain on a cliff top whilst other tents were collapsing around us and I remember distinctly thinking "Can I go home now"

Have not had our Montana 6 for long, but it will get quicker with practice and, probably more importantly, need less of both of you.

Ours goes up in around 30-40mins, with me needing only around 5-10 minutes of help from someone else.

Put our Montana up the first time this weekend in rather gusty weather.Getting the first pole section proved the hardest but once that done was all fairly easy. Did however find after putting the tent up that the fabric wasn't symetrical on the poles so groundsheet slightly lifted on the porch side. Any tips on preventing this?

Thanks

We recently bought a Monty 6 and it's my new favourite posession! One tip I would give is that it is easier to get the first set of poles in their pins if you start from the front and one person stands inside holding the roof pole whilst the other puts the pins in the bottom of the poles. From then on it's a piece of cake. The Outwell website has a good video of how to get it right.

We've got our tent erecting down to a fine tee - 30 minutes from lifting it out of the boot to supping first glass of wine!

20 min`s of cursing and swearing, pointing fingers, stamping feet, and pulling your hair out, suppose it`s got to be the best bit of the holiday

then comes the bad bit of having to fit all the stuff in it. i want it here she wants it there and the kids just throw it all over

You did well.  It took me and the OTH 4 hours to put the Hartford S up this year.  It was very hot at the time and we did stop to go and have dinner but I suspect that it wouldnt have taken much less if we hadnt.  Well done to you I say !! Snowgoose

I always say the more you do it the better you get at it and the less time it takes.
