We`ve been camping for about 18 months now and fortunately have never had to set up in the rain. We have a royal sassari 6 which has an inner tent which has to be pitched first and then the top skin after.
We really, really want to go camping this weekend but the forecast isn`t good and I`m just wondering how do other people cope with this problem. If we pitch in the rain then surely the inner tent will get soaked and let all the rain through. Now we could sit in the pub and wait for the rain to stop, but what if it doesn`t?
Advice please folks, I`m having camping withdrawal symptoms!
When we had the tent and it rained we laid out the inner tent quickly and then laid the outer over the top and erected it like that. Can be a little tricky but master it and your sorted

Realy worried about this as the weather is yuk we will end up at some point putting tent up and down in the rain, think i will stay in car and let OH and oldest son get on with it. I shall just say i dont want to get in the way, ha, ha, ha
Putting the outer over the inner whilst yo u are working on it will certainly help - and for yourselves, wear minimum clothes or wrap up in full waterproofs if you have them. Then get briskly towelled down and into dry warm clothes asap when you are done - this minimises the amount of wet clothes you end up with.....and it is fun putting up a tent in your wellies and swimwear...honest!
We don't have this problem as ours is a flysheet first set up, but last time we were away it rained and I sat and watched a couple put up a gazebo first and then put their tent up underneath and then they removed the gazebo.
------------- Carpe Diem
Started in Tents, then trailer Tent and now Caravan.
we have a tunnel the great thing is not putting in the movable end means you can back the car in a couple of feet ,not having a sig means you just drop the last few feet in place when your done and the cars parked
same with the frame tent just back it under the awning and you pack/unpack nice and dry .
if it threatens rain we put the groundsheet over the tent (ours is huge we use it folded in half) you can then drop the tent after everything else is stowed and quickly bundle it in the car and fold it at home at our leisure
