Just looking for a bit of advice on the Montana 6, which I purchased earlier in the year and am extremely pleased with.

The only problem I have with it seems to be the poles which form a curve to support the roof. They are round tubes with a flattened side which is supposed to keep everything in alignment, but even the slightest breeze when pitching forces them to twist and the flat edges don't seem to have enough strength to keep everything in place.

I was thinking about trying to drill the poles on the flat edge and inserting some spring clips of the type that I used to have on my frame tent. The thought being that once they are pushed together, the 'button' on the spring clip would pop up and hold the poles in alignment.

Does anyone know if this is possible, (or wise!), and if so, can you recommend a source for the spring clips?

Many thanks.

Yep, it is a problem we get all the time on our Monty 6 and it annoys me asthetically, however, it does not seem to give me any problems. I usually give the offending poles a bit of a tap or twist and things reset themselves.

I guess the sort of clips you propose might work, however, I think the clips would be inside the flysheet sleave and, possibly worse, with the flat side rubbing down on the top of the flysheet - i.e. wearing into the material. On that chance, personally, I would not risk it.... but let me know if it does works...

Thanks Big Bunny.

At least now I know it's not just me doing something wrong!

Depending on the amount of space within the sleeve, I think I may give it a try. If there is sufficient room, the clips would point down and hopefully not make contact with the fly sheet.

The other possible problem is the cable that holds the pole sections together, but I'm hoping I can fit the clips in next to this without too much difficulty.

All I have to do now is find someone who can supply the clips.

Seriously, let us know how it goes; I am always up for a bit of customising...
