Hi Debbie,
Went to tent show yesterday (and lots of tent shops in Keswick on Friday). We've ordered the Nebraska XL. It's very light inside, has a big porch and additional large living area with SIG, as well as two 4-berth inners which can divide into 4x 2 berth. The bedrooms are possibly a little on the small side if trying to fit in airbeds for 8, however we need it for 5 people but wanted the option of our 3 children having their own space. The Nebraska ticked all our boxes.
We were impressed with Montana 6 - very big living area and liked the canopy, however, felt that as our boys grow their sleeping compartment might not be big enough, lovely tent though and not one we'd even considered initially but really liked it.
The Montana 12 has good sized sleeping compartments and a large living area but there was something I didn't like as much about it overall and it took a while to put my finger on what it was. Realised that it was the side doors I didn't like as much, preferred the airy large end doors on Montana 6 and Nebraska. Probably not something that would bother many people but just personal preference. The sleeping compartments in the Montana 12 were probably the best we saw for a 4-bed though.
Also looked at the Hartford XXL. Again, great tent, and liked the arrangement of the sleeping compartments (this is actually the first tent we considered and almost bought it without seeing any pitched). When I made a telephone enquiry to the campshow originally, I was told that the Montana and Nebraska were quicker and easier to pitch than the Hartford, however, having now seen them all I don't think there'd be much difference, obviously they all pitch differently due to their designs but all 3 looked straightforward enough. Loved the skylight in the living area of the Hartford. More height in the bedrooms of the Montana and Nebraska and in the end decided that pitching fly first was something we wanted and can't do this with the Hartford.
Looked at loads of other tents including Khyams and Vango - so much choice! It just boils down to personal preference; seeing the tents pitched and being able to walk from one to another and back again (loads of times!) really helped. Pleased with our choice, but of course, we've not camped in it yet......
Let me know what you decide.
