There don't seem to be many fans of the Khyam on this site. I'm looking for opinions on the XXL Classic as I'm looking for a tent I can put up single handed. I like the vis-a-vis layout and like the idea of a tent i can pitch quickly for shorter trips. Although in the main it will be accommodation for three (2 children 1 adult) there may be occasions when OH will be able to join us.
I quite fancy joining a UK Camp Site rally next weekend (bank holiday) so need to get a move on: there is no way I can errect my Diablo 900 single handed!
There are masses of Khyam fans here! Do a search on Khyam appreciation society. I have the Tourer 400 which is fab, easy to erect single handed. The XXL is a similar shape just bigger. I'm sure someone will come along soon and comment on the XXL!
i am looking at this tent too, and will be very interested to read the replies. We went into camping and general, our local camping store today to look at it and get a demo and advice.
They said it would take about 25mins to fully pitch including inners. Can anyone confirm this?
I think you could do it in 25 mins but it's the pegging out that takes the time as with all tents. With the Khyam system after a few times of erecting it - it becomes much easier. I can erect the 400 in about 12 mins
Yeh, go for it.
I wasn't sure about spending the extra but in the
end went for the classic xxl.
And after some VERY wet days in Wales, completely
justified myself.
We got there and I had to put it up for the first time in the rain ,and that night we had horizontal rain.
And then some more rain.
It went up just like they say on the tin,
30mins first time.
Fantastic tent.
I can confirm that the Khyam xxl is a brilliant tent, went camping in cromer last week, really strong wind's and it withstood all that was thrown at it (force 8), many tent's on site were flattened. Takes about 20 minute's to erect but then it's the pegging out that take's the time, if done correctly. Three of us struggled to collapse the tent upon leaving, in a force 8 gale.
We had a khyam XL Classic, which only has the one bedroom pod, but the living area is essentially the same size as the XXL. This was very easy to put up and could be done single handed as all of the main poles that form the central part are the ones already connected, you just have to put the joins into place and position the legs.
I often put my kyham xxl up single handed. The time consuming bit is pegging out as other post said but all tents will have this. Very sturdy tent in all weather conditions. We have had ours 5 years now and used it every summer.
