Hi all

We're tempted towards an Outwell Indiana 6 for next year for the non-Cabanon/Coleman trips.

I've had a look at the threads from earlier in the season and wonder how you've all got on with the Indi on your trips this summer?

How long does it take you to pitch? Is there much difference in pitching the Indi 4 and the Indi 6? Anything that irritates you that you didn't notice until you used it?

Cheers!

Hi Piglet! We are very pleased with our Indi 4.

Easy to pitch, nice and bright inside, good windows and doors.  The front canopy is good for keeping the rain off the front doorway and making the tent look a bit fancier! We appreciated the canopy when we were away for a fortnight but left it at home last weekend when we were only away for three nights.

The riser groundsheet is a bit cleverer than other risers I've seen plus its backed up by peggable mudflaps, so you've got quite a lot of options as to how much or how little you want to control air flow.

Good useable space in the living area, last weekend there were four of us, the dog, two tables, chairs etc eating in there and it still felt like loads of space. Bearing in mind that we have downsized from a Monty 6, I didn't miss the space we've lost in the bedrooms or the living area at all. But NB we are usually only two of us actually camping in our Indi 4.

I had thought the sewn in organiser/pocket thing was a bit of a frippery but it turned out to be really useful as somewhere to put sunglasses, 'best' shoes, the dog's lead, poobags, torches....

My only improvement suggestion would be to make the riser groundsheet full footprint,  but I don't think that would be one of your priorities!

The people camped opposite us in Cornwall had an Indi 8, which they found a dream (speed of erection, bright inside etc) compared to their previous Diablo. The only complaint they had, and we feel the same, is the weight of the poles, which are quite heavy. But I guess that is a price to be paid for strength. Oh, and the poles do tend to stick together a bit when you're trying to separate them after taking the tent down. The trick is not to try pulling them apart but to wiggle them or give them a little tap with a rubber mallet and then they separate very easily.  MT

Thanks MT, we looked at the 4 and the 6 at the Garden Centre in Highbridge today and whilst we liked the 4 we felt that it might be a bit small for the two of us and that the 6 would give us a bit more living space for not much more money or pitching time.

You're right that we're not bothered about a footprint groundsheet! I did notice the peggable flaps though and that looks nice. It seemed to have really good ventilation and the bathtup groundsheet is a nice extra - we've used the Coleman with SIG quite a lot this year - maybe I'm getting used to it (I'm still tempted to cut it out with a craft knife though!)

Do you cook in yours?   Presumably to dry it you just need to get the flysheet spread out?

Hi. No , I haven't cooked in ours (yet).  Although I did cook inside the Monty 6, there was more space in that tent and also you could completely roll away the window behind the cooker for excellent ventilation.  . We have used the Indi twice - once for a fortnight on our own and then last weekend with friends - so both times we used our Oudoor Revolution 'Outhouse' as the kitchen and it worked a dream. If we were going away  just the two of us for one or two nights, then I would be quite happy to do cups of tea, snacks etc in the Indi. Maybe put the cooker stand in front of the open side door for cooking a proper meal? Or you could try under the canopy with windbreakers round?

Luckily, we've brought the tent home dry both times, but it would be easy enough to dry off the flysheet by spreading it out indoors or out I reckon. MT

Hi, I have the Outwell Indiana 6 and it's absolutely brill!!!! No complaints.  There are 2 adults, 1 child and a medium sized dog with bed and there is loads of room.  We have had two kids sleeping in it and still bags of space.

I noticed a few complaints about leaking outwells in other threads but I have to say we have camped in thunder storms and not one leak!!! It withstood high winds when others gazebos etc blew away/snapped. I agree with MT the organiser thingy is great idea for all your bits and bobs.  The tent has a lovely airy feel when weather warm but you can also batten down the hatches when the weather turns and feels very cosy inside.  I tend to cook under the canopy with windbreakers round but due to extremely wet and windy weather last time I cooked inside and there were no probs.

I also have to agree about the weight of the tent our old vango tent and poles did not weigh as much as the poles for Indy and it is also quite a bigger package all round which is a bit of a nightmare in VW Polo!!!

Thanks MT and Flamingo. I think this is deff on the wish list for next year. Hopefully then we'll have a tent for all eventualities (ha ha - I'm sure I'll find another situation that'll need yet another tent!!).

Does anyone know if there will be a new model of the Indi next year? We don't really have the cash to buy one this year but I've found it at £250 which is much cheaper than than it was at the start of the season.
