As a matter of interest, just wondering what people do to secure belongings left inside your tent when you leave the tent to go hiking/sightseeing for the day?
Up till now we've only been away for an odd night, but are thinking of going away for a proper holiday and so have only left the tent for an hour or two and not done anything other than zip everything up. Thanks
every time we camp we are away from most of the day and have never done anything other than secure the door bungees with another tentpeg. no probs so far.....
True, but this also makes a risk when parking the car when visiting town, for instance. That's why tourist cars are so often broken into.
An idea could be to buy on of those little safes; they should have a hole drilled in the back for attaching it to the wall. Put such a safe on the ground in the tent and, from the inside, screw two or more, large spirals (as used for large dogleads) into the ground, then closing the lid of the safe. Some-one has to be awfully strong to pull the safe out of the ground or even opening it.
Most people I know do not worry too much as theft from tents is really quite rare.
I generally leave everything in the tent, I have never taken any precautions except for zipping up all the doors. The same with most of my friends who camp. I have not heard of any problems yet!! We often go out for the day too.
Only valuables we take are generally taken with us in a rucksack, such as camera, phone, wallet etc, however we bought 2 dinky padlocks from camping shop and feed all zip loops through on a padlock for both doors.
Keeps the wife happy, although I do agree with previous comment that everybody looks out for one another.
Never had a problem. Thing is with a tent if they want to get in they only have to slash the fabric with a knife and they are in so I don't see any point in padlocks.
My bro in law does padlock his trailer, again we have never bothered.
