I started camping with a small tent years ago, then later on got a trailer tent, then moved on to a small caravan, then moved on to a 5 berth monster caravan, then moved on to a 38ft static, then sold that and stopped camping! Then got the bug again and bought another trailer tent.....that proved too much to erect ( the years have moved on as well don't forget!).... we then bought a beautiful Outwell Bear Lake tent! That was the best thing we have ever done regards camping! So you enjoy your camping, and stuff the others who have not seen what we have seen..... peace, happiness, tranquillity.....and above all else......FUN!

What a righteous lot on here some of you are. Don't assume that all non-campers are beer swilling, tv addicted, Ibiza partying, apes who need to be "spoon fed their leisure time". We go camping a lot, but doesn't mean I don't enjoy getting on a plane to foreign climes and enjoying other types of holidays as well.
Nobody is knocking holidays abroad - plenty of people on the site go abroad as well. What we are saying here is that we wish people who don't camp wouldn't knock it.
We love camping and find that friends just roll their eyes when we extoll the virtues of a weekend of relaxing comfort of a good tent with good equipment.
I too love the holidays abroad and go twice a year to Greece, Nowt wrong with a bit of winter sun
One of the things I love about camping that haven't been mentioned so far I think, is how well the kids eat & sleep.... and it's a proper deep sleep as well because they've been getting plenty of exercise. I've started buying a ready cooked rotisserie chicken from supermarkets to take with us and just some ready made salad & a french stick, all simple stuff but it tastes so much better outside!
I'm not knocking holidays abroad either. It's been years since we last went (pre-kids) but we hope to go next year as I really want my girls to go on an aeroplane. It's 2 completely different types of holidays but I can't see how your friends can knock camping if they haven't tried it! Maybe they're scared incase they like it - like the vast majority do?

Food tastes better outside and have you noticed how shut in you feel when you get home.Everybody is different and has differing tastes which is good otherwise the world would be a boring place. But give me the great outdoors with big skys and like minded people to share in the experience.
I have to throw open the doors and windows when we get home, we are sweltering within minutes!! One thing we always remark on about camping is that you are literally in the outdoors and fresh air from the moment you get up to the time you go to bed. We are lucky enough to live in the country and my children are outdoors most of the time anyway, but camping and all the rushing about to the play area wears them out a treat. The only time they hate it is when we are going and we get the long sad faces, but when they get home and see the toys they haven't seen for a while they perk up and everything's a novelty again. I find it a great way of having little camps throughout the holidays to give us all a change of scenery and then time at home to plan our netx trip!
Had to giggle yesterday, OH went back to work after our trip last week and spoke to a colleague who's off on holiday tomorrow ... apparently the chap is going to Singapore & Borneo ... 'oh, are you going to the jungle?' asked OH. 'No, we think that might be a bit much for our 4 year old' was the reply. Given that my two (under 5s) fidget when they're in the car for more than 2 hours, I couldn't imagine taking them on a trip like that until much older!!!
