We are also looking forward to our first camping trip this weekend.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread and all the tips have been a great help.

extra blankets!  if you're using blow up beds and quilts then put one underneath you when you're sleeping - really helps to keep you warm.  if you're using sleeping bags you still might need them.

I am the one who said you learn as you go, I didnt mean for you to ignore the advise on here, but to go with what is classed as the norm in equipment and build from there on. I have also jotted down some great ideas that has been said on here, The piont I was trying to make was dont go buying everything as you may not need/use it, and it would then be a shame if you sat there afterwards and thought this camping lark is getting far to expensive, ( waterless anti-bac ) sorry just jotting that one down before I forget hahaha.

Don't forget bear repellant. We've used it on every trip so far and, touch wood, haven't been troubled by bears, even camping as far afield as Cornwall and Devon.

Best £100.00 I ever spent. Only a small bottle but damn, that salesman was right. He said its so effective he's stopped selling snake oil to concentrate on anti-bear stuff. Said if we ever got attacked by bears he'd gladly give us our money back. Can't say fairer than that.

My essential is a bottle of Tia Maria.

A lovely hot coffee liberally dosed does wonders to keep me warm through the night.

You've not been camping in South Wales yet then, it could prove to be very useful in certain areas there.
