Perhaps you just had the wrong type of airbed. We have the Coleman Double Comfort with seperate chambers for each side. It gets very good write ups from lots of peeps on this site. If you do a search you will get loads of recommendations for it. We always get a good nights sleep on ours.

We use air beds, but our sons prefer camp beds. I think you need to try so you can find which you prefer. Do you know anyone you could borrow a couple of camp beds from rather than buying just to try?

OH and I have two double beds, one on top of the other, as it is too far down with just one for me and my poor knees!!!!!

good suggestion about two double beds for dodgy knees, never thought of that!

I had a similar lack of sleep problem, got the double air bed with inflatable pillow AND got rid of the restrictive single sleeping bag for a large double. Much cosier and much more comfortable.

We have just spent 5 nights (for the first time) on our kingsize coleman blow up bed.  It inflated quickly using the car compressor.  Neither of us are exactly tiny in proportions, but slept really well and did not roll into each other etc!  We would certainly recommend this bed.

Having only just started camping ourselves and  tomorrow going on our 4th trip this year - we use the coleman comfort double airbeds.  What we did on our last trip, which made our sleeping really comfy, was to open up a sleeping bag and put it on the airbed and took our king size duvet instead of using sleeping bags.  This was really snug and certainly beats struggling in and out of a sleeping bag, particularly if you need the loo (or bucket) in the middle of the night!
