Got the tent out to dry when arriving home yesterday and noticed the tent still smells of bacon from breakfast!

Will it just go away if it's aired? I'm guessing fabreeze wouldn't be a good idea?

Your lucky it bacon

every time we put down our ground sheet we keep getting a nasty smell of urine.

We have hosed it down, but maybe its the makeup of the material.

Hi Den,

Have you tried washing it with surgical spirits?  A solution of 1 to 3.  This will neutralise all odours.  If anyone out there also have any young cat's or older cats that pee or mark their territory, this will work to de-odorise and discourage also!!!  Always handy to know...

stick it between 2 slices of bread

get it pitched and aired out, we use scented candles in the tent before we take it down

Try cooking a curry! I did once when we had a caravan and the smell lingered right through to the awning. I had to wash the curtains and it took ages to go but a bit of airing got rid of it in the end. Enjoyed it at the time though!

It was raining so we were cooking in the tent on day 2, the children were going stir crazing and they were also hungry, the pasta was ready so I attempted to drain it, I got nudged by number one son and pasta for 4 and all the boiling water ends up inside tent, after the initial oh my gosh is anybody scalded, there was much pointing of fingers and retribution and eventually clearing up. I think this is the first argument against against SIG's. ... Day 11 back from day out somewhere "smells a bit stale in the tent" says son, "I'll open the awning up, the milk most be off" ... Day 12 back from some other day trip "that smells got worse" says mum "mmm the tent just needs an airing" says dad ... Day 13 back from a hot sunny day at the beach "don't go in the tent ... rotting corpse ... gas mask ..." says dad. After airing the tent a closer inspection ensues and nothing is found, but decide to investigate the layer between the groundsheet and the SIG of the bedrooms, where we found significant stagnant pools of pasta water and one or two pasta spirals. Next day took the bedrooms down and thoroughly washed groundsheets down. Smell faded but washed down with diluted bi-carb of soda at home to finally get rid of smell. Wouldn't use the on the walls of the tent though.

We wouldn't normally, but it was chucking down with rain at the time. We take a fishing umberella nowadays to keep us covered..

Hi

Maybe this is a good wake up call for the old standby, POT NOODLE or similar snacks for in the tent when weather is to bad to cook outside. There is always a good selection of buttys that can be made, again for when weather is being a bit nowty outside.

Tea and Cake - that's one of my reasons for not liking SIGS - grass soaks up.   I do know the feeling about the kids going stir crazy inside when its pouring down.   I just put a couple of picnic rugs down as they can be be replaced with a clean one when the Weetabix gets spilt.   

Going to try the Surgical Spirit in one or two place in the house as one of our cats has taken to weeing inside.
